Specifically, Putin has utilized making war on "weaker" countries as a political strategy to show strength of himself as a leader. When things go south domestically, you attempt to "own" weaker parties. When the weaker party doesnt back down (Ukraine, Iran, Denmark) it just makes things worse.

We got W because of SCOTUS in 2000 and lost a lot of civil liberties after 9/11. We dont have student loan relief nor did we ever get the ACA how it was supposed to work because of SCOTUS. Hell, we all like to blame Garland, but Trump roams free because King John Roberts decided he was immune.
