Nothing like being neurosplained that I'm apparently living through hell during my Monday morning commute to work.

Absolutely tragic this happened. But also pure darwinism. That section of track is in between a freeway and fenced off. There's also plenty of areas to safely cross the freeway. This comment on Reddit from the other day sums this up.

Day one taking the REM leaving McGill heading north. Not very many people, but to be fair it only just opened up. My final commute time was about 10 minutes shorter. The bus afterwards got stuck in traffic.

Taking advantage of the Free opening weekend for Rem opening in Montreal. Already I can tell this is going to be a game changer. I did a test trip, and found it shaves at least 20 minutes off my commute time to work. That's a big game changer.

I heard about this story earlier today. The West Ada school district used an incredibly terrible sports analogy to explain their reasoning. It makes the district sound incredibly authoritarian.
Letter from the West Ada school district.
March 12, 2025
Dear West Ada Staff,
At West Ada School District, we remain committed to fostering a supportive, welcoming, and academically-focused environment for all students. This commitment is upheld through district policies that establish clear, consistent guidelines for classroom expectations, ensuring fairness across all schools.
Much like a well-coached sports team, success in education comes from following a structured game plan.
Every player knows that while they bring their own strengths and personality to the game, they must operate within the rules to maintain fairness and consistency. If one player decided to wear a different uniform, use a different-sized ball, or ignore the rules, the game would lose its structure, creating confusion and imbalance.
Similarly, West Ada Board Policy serves as our rulebook, ensuring that all visual aids and displays in classrooms align with district guidelines and contribute to a focused, distraction-free learning space.
West Ada's Policy 401.20 clearly defines the types of visual aids that may be displayed in classrooms, ensuring that district-owned physical property remains content-neutral and conducive to a positive learning environment. This policy was created several years ago through collaboration between district staff, teachers, and the West Ada Education Association. It went through the three-reading process and was open for patron input.
Approved displays include:
1. The current Idaho state flag;
2. Flags or banners used as part of a temporary unit of student instruction within the approved curriculum:
a. Such flag or banner shall present factually accurate historic events;
b. Flags of countries representing the nations of the world temporarily used for educational purposes as approved by the building principal or designee;
These guidelines ensure consistency across all classrooms, keeping the focus on academic achievement rather than subjective interpretations that could create inconsistency. While classroom decorations can enhance the atmosphere, a truly welcoming and supportive environment is built through meaningful relationships, positive interactions, and the daily commitment of our staff-not posters on the walls.
When displays fall outside of these parameters, they must be removed to maintain alignment with district policy.
Marcus Myers, Chief Academic Officer, is a dedicated professional who has loyally served West Ada in multiple capacities for 25 years, approaching his work with grace and professionalism. To ensure that policies are applied fairly and consistently, Marcus, along with other leaders in West Ada, plays a critical role in upholding board policy across the district. Think of him like the referee in a game-while players (teachers and staff) bring their own approaches and creativity to instruction, the game itself must be played within the established rules. Referees enforce the rules impartially to ensure a fair and level playing field. Similarly, Marcus Myers and other district leaders ensure that board policies are followed equitably, preventing inconsistencies that could impact students, staff, or schools. His extensive experience and steadfast leadership make him an invaluable asset in maintaining a balanced and effective educational environment.
At West Ada, we proudly welcome all students into our buildings and classrooms-not through posters, but through the genuine connections we foster every day. A truly welcoming, safe, and supportive classroom is not defined by a sign on the wall but by the interactions, engagement, attitudes, and caring spirit of our staff.

Hi Rachel. I've been working with Final Cut for 15 years, so I can help out a few issues. Notably how to fix the audio channel issue, and where to find the tools to move your graphics so that they don't block your face. I've provided more details in the ALT text.
Fix the audio.
1. Select the clip either while it's in your clip library, or in your timeline. Either way should work. Though doing it from your timeline will save you work time and since you won't have to do this with every new clip added.

2. Select the icon of the audio speaker at the top of the inspector window. (Top red circle)

(If you can't see the inspector window, you'll need to activate it from the taskbar at the top of the screen. Click Window -> Show in Workspace -> And make sure 'Inspector' is checked)

3. Under Audio Configuration click the dropdown box on the right (By Default it says "Stereo")

4. Change the option to "Dual Mono"

5. Unclick the checkbox for the audio track that has no audio waves. This can be helpful if the 2nd track has static in it. To move graphics to the sides of the screen so that they don't block your face.

1. Go to the Inspector.

2. Click the icon of the film strip.

3. Under "Transform" you can manipulate the position using the X and Y values. By default they're set to 0 px.

4. Click and hold the numeric value in the X or Y tabs to move your graphic. X moves it left and right, Y moves it up and down.

(Alternatively you can move the graphics freely by manipulating them in the viewer, see my 3rd image)

To adjust the size of the graphic use the "Scale (All)" slider, avoid using Scale X or Scale Y as this will distort the shape of the image.Alternatively, you can use the "Free Transform" tool to move graphics freely with your mouse.

1. Underneath your video viewer, click the icon of a square with 4 circles in each edge which I've circled in the lower left.

2. Select "Transform"

3. Click and hold on the circle in the middle of your graphic and you can move the graphic wherever you want. You can also use the blue edged to adjust the sixe, and the blue target icon slightly to the right of center to rotate the icon if needed.

Yep. Contrary to what Neurotypicals think. The overwhelming majority of autistic people do not want a cure. It's the relatives who seem to be in favour of one. Easy to advocate for a cure, to when they're not the ones being pressured to take it. autisticnotweird.com/autismsurvey...

Thank you Senator. And as someone who is autistic as well, it should without saying that being autistic is far better than dying from a vaccine preventable disease. Let's also not forget this aspect of autism that RFK seems to be afraid of.
3. A strong sense of justice
Many autistic people are highly empathetic and have a strong moral compass. They may become distressed by injustice and motivated to change the world for the better. Plenty of autistic people are not afraid to stand up for their beliefs and challenge things they see as unjust.

Your post is up on r/SubredditDrama where it's blowing up big, now one of the moderators of r/Canada is responding there. They say they're now willing to ask questions. This ought to be interesting. www.reddit.com/r/SubredditD...
Post from Evilbred

Hi, I'm a moderator at r/Canada.

Happy to answer any questions people might have.

We don't generally allow social media posts, of which we include substack. It's the same for tiktok and twitter 'journalists'.

We also don't allow self-promotion of own articles, and have routinely pushed back against official corporate accounts for Canadian media companies from posting their own stories. We encourage those same accounts to participate and add context to the discussions users post.

Mr. Lebrun failed to adhere to the subreddit rules. It was this which resulted in him being banned.

We have reached out multiple times to Ben Shannon with CBC to offer an opportunity to add context to his story but thus far they've seemed uninterested in adding depth to his piece.

The mod team has discussed and have taken steps to increase transparency, including regular subreddit townhall posts to hear feedback directly from the user base more frequently.

Again, I'm more than willing to answer any respectful questions.

Huge news for the #Neurodiversity movement. Autism Speaks Canada is shutting down operations in January. LET'S GOOOOOOO!!!!!!
Post on Autism Speaks Canada Operations Update.

Thanks to your generosity, Autism Speaks Canada has been able to deliver critical resources such as the Autism Response Team and My Autism Guide, while also investing nearly $5 million in Community Grants to strengthen access to community-based programs. Together with our partners including SickKids, DNAstack and McGill University we have also made important advances in research and science. Together, we have made strides in understanding autism, improving interventions, and successfully advocating for National Autism Strategy in parliament in 2024.

After almost 20 years of dedication to building an inclusive Canada and after much consideration, Autism Speaks Canada will conclude its operations on January 31, 2025. The intentional decision to conclude was not taken lightly and has been weighed against responsible stewardship through and through. To honour donor intent, commitments, mission and values, ASC is proud to have maintained a responsible conclusion to this part of its story. We have, and continue to, advocate for increased funding of autism services, advocacy and research to serve this important and growing population.
