Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 28/09/2026Spot on with chasing every idea. It’s real easy and satisfying, but a divided attention makes everything more challenging 020
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 21/09/2026Had a dream last night where I burned through my entire AI budget because I had an every 15 minute task to refactor the entire code base using Astra, running the entire weekend Terrifying I know the math is wrong, but who does math in their sleep 012
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 20/09/2026Bold move to openly say the human had very little part in this. Equally fascinating and frightening 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 18/09/2026What an incredible week in New York. 2 days at the @leaddev.com LDX3 conference. Still processing all the leadership and AI conversations. 2 days in our NY office spending time with the trading team to see how they use our software in the wild. 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 12/09/2026Happy Mogollon Monster day to those who celebrate. Been a year since I finished the 100 mile run there. Good luck to all the runners today … and tomorrow 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 06/09/2026If you have heard Bryan speak, then you can hear his voice in his writing. That’s the stuff that makes the best content. 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 18/08/2026I love reading these. I know that’s weird, but fascinating to see how systems interact 021
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 13/08/2026I read it. I learned things I didn’t think I thought I would learn today. I also have more questions about math now. Annie we need more people like you on the internet explaining things 031
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 11/08/2026Thanks for writing about this. Love hearing first hand experience. Also interesting to see how the work changes and (human) skills evolve. Your mention of the bottleneck in qa is timely - I’m trying get AI into that process right now 110
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 16/07/2026Might I suggest not writing about any other minor leaguers for a few weeks 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 14/07/2026Were these phrases always in use and I never noticed them until 6 months ago? It’s not x it’s y Why z matters Who really talks like this? With all the AI content “tells” it seems lazy to publish anything with these phrases 010
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 16/06/2026LLMs are excellent editors. The ask for “descriptive verbs” is great. I’ll have to use that 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 12/06/2026If software doesn’t work out for this guy, he’s got a future in writing. Zombies, snakes and the apocalypse are quite the opener 110
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 13/05/2026This past weekend I ran the Ice Age 50 mile run. This one was pretty special, it was my 10th time finishing 50 miles at that race. I have literally been working on this for over a decade. It was also good to spend time with friends who show up every year 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 05/04/2026Read it last year in a group. I loved it and was constantly reading up on the storage and encoding topics. Some in the group with less experience struggled because they didn’t find it applicable to everyday work. Definitely recommended to anyone curious how things work 110
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 30/03/2026It’s so simple, but easy to forget all the positives. Your colleagues really gave you a gift that day 110
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 27/03/2026Silence the notifications, wait a couple of weeks and guess what happens next. I miss the old Twitter 010
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 18/03/2026Not sure it matters if you fill out the form. Ask me how I know 110
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 11/03/2026Done this a couple of times now. Skip the 3rd party library and AI implements what you need. Fewer dependencies, fewer vulns. I’m sure there is a downside to this, I’ll find out in a couple of years 010
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 06/03/2026You’ve already reviewed and refactored. You can likely explain it to someone after that. This is the way 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 02/03/2026I thought it was a young Prince but the body didn’t look the same. Dropping the back knee and the sweeping follow through… Brings back memories 010
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 27/02/2026Really good advice, nothing too complicated - as it should be. Rethinking how I can use my time has completely changed everything 110
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 10/02/2026This is awesome. I had to see the about page to see you did this. Happy to see htmx in the wild 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 04/02/2026Not entirely the same thing but my head went to this immediately xkcd.com/927/xkcd.comStandards 150
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 31/01/2026Are you working more on the same amount of stuff. Or working more but getting more done? 020
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 29/01/2026That went places I wasn’t expecting. Loved how you didn’t try to convince me to one side or the other, instead bringing it back to utility, meaning, and efficiency 120
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 27/01/2026I think you were the reason I went all in on Bluesky in late 2024. I remember doing so much extra work to filter out noise and nonsense and then had enough of it. There are still a few accounts a check in on Twitter, but I check them less often lately 010
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 27/01/2026New AI experience today Copilot took about 30 minutes in what would normally take a day or more to code Found out 15 minutes into testing that I missed a subtle but major blindspot in the data. Backing out the code was trivial I didn’t lose a day of writing code ps. there are other lessons too 000
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 27/01/2026Amp costs more when I use it full time and I’ve had limited experience with Claude code. Are you seeing that much difference in code quality? Is this in greenfield apps or adding to existing apps? So many questions, but genuinely curious 100
Dave Smith @davesmith.dev · 21/01/2026I only check a couple times a week to hear from a few tech people. I’ve seen the notification setting get reset on app updates. Yeah, that place changed 000
