There's probably a reason so many of my favorite people are librarians 😁 Of course, what constitutes a library is somewhat subjective ...
Is it a library? Alignment chart, a la the 3x3 grid for D&D, with two axes: Curation vs. Contents.
Curation scores: Purist (managed by a professional librarian), Neutral (curated by someone) and Rebel (curation unnecessary).
Contents scores: Purist (must contain books), Neutral (must contain information), Rebel (anything goes).
Examples, listed in order of Curation followed by Contents: NY Public Library, a newspaper archive, a school information commons; a home bookshelf, a Spotify playlist, a zoo; a (little free) a PC Downloads folder. street library, a junk drawer.

Welcome Ammonitritor scientacivium, a new Early Triassic omphalosaurid from Svalbard! 🤩 The new skull confirms omphalosaurids were a group of specialised pelagic ichthyosauriforms that likely fed on ammonoids. New paper from me and my collaborators is out now in Biological Reviews!

Dials clack across a brazen breastplate. WE WILL. "It is as you thought. We did not draw too close, but it was still enough. You will have to find their shadows if you hope to restore them." OR RESTORE THE LIGHT. The smile is painfully lovely. "If you can." A light touch on my chest, searing.

I come to, numb, cradled in cold metal arms. The branches above are bare, leaves littering the forest floor. An exquisite figure, too beautiful to look upon for long, confers quietly with the automaton. Scimitar curved horns glisten in the fading light. "Be careful with this one," they caution.

See, languages are hard without soft tissue preservation, so you have to work with body language and behavior. The big takeaway was that the Triassic was fine but the Jurassic was absolutely a no-go zone. Not even corpses.

It's #NationalFossilDay in the US! This year the site of interest is White Sands National Park in New Mexico, US, where human footprints document the earliest confirmed record of people in the Americas. Not coincidentally, a new paper on these fossils is just out! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... 🧪
The 2026 National Fossil Day artwork depicts a scene of Late Pleistocene fauna that were known to walk this former wetland environment. Large Ice Age animals roamed the area, leaving behind body fossils as well as trace fossils, such as the tracks seen in the corners of the logo, depicting giant ground sloths, short-faced bears, camels, and saber-toothed cats. In the illustration, Columbian mammoths are observed from the background. They stood up to 14 feet tall at the shoulder and sought the area’s plentiful vegetation, such as the depicted shrubs, to satisfy their herbivorous diets. Numerous localities in and around White Sands have documented the presence of mammoth tracks, and the round to ovoid impressions are described as resembling those of living elephants. Other animals in the artwork include western camels (Camelops hesternus), which looked like their modern relatives and grazed over large ranges, and a native North American horse that fed primarily on grasses and has a close relationship to modern zebras. In the foreground is a family of short-faced bears, enormous omnivores that stood up to 11 feet tall on two legs. The bear family’s prints are left in the soft sediment and intersect with human footprints, representing similar examples found across White Sands of the coexistence of humans with these megafauna. Prints of mammoths, camel, bison, and other taxa have been recorded stepping atop human prints, and vice versa. These prints have been recorded many feet above other human and megafauna prints laid earlier in geologic time, showing that they lived concurrently for thousands of years.

Once again: even if it does theoretically work, the main obstacle to geoengineering is that it requires the same kind of coordinated response that regulating global carbon emissions does - and is therefore just as vulnerable to perverse national incentives and corporate ratfucking.

we used to be an internet... A REAL INTERNET!!!!
Reddit post from r/AskReddit titled, "URGENT! Need to know right fucking now: Is it safe for octopi to drink beer? Stout in particular". The post includes edits explaining that the octopus seems okay, but that the user replaced its containment rock with a cinderblock, and that the octopus later inked the tank before the user went to sleep.

That would be a sad octopus, for she would have none ... but hopefully her squid friend would share one of her two? Now, a beer in each arm sounds like a party ... until a chambered nautilus bumps into 'em carrying beer in every tentacle. All 90 or so!
