This was maximum in Southern Ontario, about 8% is all we got - cloudy day but a few sunny breaks.

Looking at the pictures I posted I see some artifacts near the center top of each photo, looks like a pair of bright stars - they aren't in my original photos - can anyone say what might have happened?

I have had skies for a week now - every night around 10pm EDT I hobble out to the corner of the farm where I can see to West and and take a few photos. Jupiter, Venus and Mercury low in the sky - last night I zoomed in on Mercury and noticed a companion - the star Mebsuta, Castor's waist.

Jupiter, Venus and Mercury June 1st, 2026 10pm EDT Castor and Pollux above. Very clear night. Mercury is low near my horizon still in the glow of the sunset or else the light pollution from Toronto 100 km away - it never gets really dark in that direction from my place. @davidbflower.bsky.social

Jupiter, Venus and tiny Mercury peeking in and out of low clouds. May 31st 2026 9:50pm. The only place on my property where I can see that part of the sky that isn't blocked by tall trees. Supposed to be clear skies this week - perhaps I'll get a better shot.

Well, I did have my cheap camera with my 18-200 mm lens mounted on my cheap star tracker (iOptron). So it was a bit more than just a "quick snap" . Without the star tracker the comet was just a green dot. People who have iPhones or Goggle Pixels often get better pictures than my setup...

I had a very clear sky this morning - I wasn't sure where Comet c/2025 A6 was so I took a photo of that area of the sky with my 18mm lens. I captured a tiny green dot left of the lower constellation Lynx. I might try again with a bigger lens or I will wait until later in October...

The last time I tried to get a photo of Saturn was Jan 9th, 2000. I held a 3 megapixel camera up to the eyepiece of my telescope. I could see quite a bit of detail with my eyes but my photos never capture the details... I should try it again, Saturn is high and bright in the early morning.

I took a photo of Venus and Jupiter at 4:45am EDT from my back field Aug 2nd. There was some wildfire smoke from the fires in northern Ontario that muddied the picture somewhat. The smoke was a lot worse at midnight when I took a picture of the Moon. Today there is an Air Quality Advisory.
