I’m so sorry for your loss. I used to work in a veterinary ER, and I often shared this quote with folks who were grieving. It’s from “The Outermost House” by Henry Beston. I wish you peace and strength.

We need another and a wiser and perhaps a more mystical concept of animals. Remote from universal nature, and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge and sees thereby a feather magnified and the whole image in distortion. Season's Greason's refers to a drawing of a yeti-like creature known as a Tundra Dweller being attacked by a smaller ape-like creature from the 1990 speculative evolution book Man After Man: An Anthropology of the Future by Dougal Dixon.
