Proof of nap.
My cat, asleep by my leg, as I nap on the couch.

I got my COVID and flu shots yesterday evening. Today started off fine but the fatigue has now set in. Nap time.

I don't know if it's supposed to be a surprise so I'll wait to reveal it later.

I took a nice little break from life's more demanding tasks today to make something neat for a friend.
A CNC machine is tracing out letters as it cuts a plastic sheet.

Update: I found another provider and made an appointment for next week. (Please clap.)

David Wheeler @daveofthings.bsky.social · 22/09/2026
Yeah, you may be right. I did find another provider that's in network, supposedly. We'll see.

"Luxury belief" is a concept that explains a lot, actually.

Because the branches of their practice in my county don't take my insurance. Grrrr. (P.S. There's no universal healthcare horror story that isn't already worse than what we have today in the US.)

At my last doctor's visit, I got a referral for an ADHD evaluation. (Yay!) But the provider I was referred to has a waiting list. Today they called back, not to say they could schedule a visit, but to clarify I was on a waiting list for an office two counties away from where I live.

Oh yeah, loved it. One thing I really appreciated was the pacing. It didn't feel rushed and action-packed like films tend to be now.

Anyway, 45 years later (unbelievable!), I watched "Alien" for the first time last night and today I had to look up that old article and let the nostalgia wash over me.

When I showed my first signs of interest in Computers, my Dad brought home a couple issues of Creative Computing he got from someone at work. I remember reading the article "Landing the Nostromo" and barely understanding a word of it. archive.org/details/crea...

Perhaps its worth mentioning the Benadryl was past its expiration date.

David Wheeler @daveofthings.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
The weirdest thing happened to me last night. I took some Benadryl before bed. Then, I kept waking up with something like restless leg syndrome. But the "restless" thing that was triggering me to shift position wasn't my leg. It was the concept of lifetime annotations in my Rust code: <'a>.

I was in the zone, coding again today. I have all the BNO08x sensor reports implemented in my new Rust driver now.

David Wheeler @daveofthings.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I coded up 20 more sensor reports in my Rust BNO08x driver today. 16 to go and they are all detector/classifier things.

I've was feeling good today and got into that flow state writing some code. I've been sharpening my Rust programming skills, writing a new driver for the BNO08x IMU. Hopefully I've have enough working to publish it soon.

I just completed "Reactor" - Day 11 - Advent of Code 2025 #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com/2025/day/11 After churning on Day 10 for, what, 8 months, I finished Day 11 in just a couple hours. This one was much easier to see the solution.

I've completed "Factory" - Day 10 - Advent of Code 2025 #AdventOfCode adventofcode.com/2025/day/10 This was a tricky one. By the time I got the answer my code base was a mess of experimental, half-baked thoughts. I'll have to clean it up before I push it.

Just one more reason I really dislike LinkedIn, and this is maybe not even their fault: It wants me to congratulate my colleague, Scott Drysdale, who is celebrating 14 years at their employer. But Scott passed away over 10 years ago. Grrr

Does anyone know what kind of trees are burning in these Canadian wildfires? The odor here in Maryland has a bit of chlorine tang in it.

As a teen, I would climb this tree and I thought I was too old for that now. But look at me! I'm all the way to the top!
I'm standing on a stump, about a meter wide, at ground level.

American here with some dumb questions. Are camera cables unique to US stadiums? Surely they are everywhere now, right? And what are the ground rules for this sort of interference?

I learned it in college in the 80s and those key bindings are forever imprinted in my mind. I never really used the lisp stuff, just basic navigation and search. I also love the macro recording and replay features for making massive, repetitive edits now and then.

So I've been trying to use their recommended process and blend in all the custom steps I need. It's been rough. There are so many steps and the process is so fragile. But just now I got everything I wanted running. Now to write it up so it's repeatable. Fingers crossed it doesn't just break again.

Back around March, I first got this dev board, the Snickerdoodle One, to boot up PYNQ 3.2.1 with WiFi. And now I want to write up the build process in a blog article but I discovered I hadn't done things in a way the PYNQ docs recommend.
