We didn't think of him. Good call.

Juan Gonzalez is the only possibility.

A lot of people have come dressed as empty black seats.

010

The crowd cheered when the puck went in, but it was mixed when they announced his name.

We just spent 20 minutes trying to think of another Detroit athlete who got booed like this while still playing here.

220

The boos for Larkin changed to cheers in about six milliseconds after he scored to give the Red Wings a 2-1 lead.

061

That is not a mixed reaction from the LCA crowd - Dylan Larkin is getting booed loudly every time he touches the puck.

Congratulations to THE Ohio State University.

030

The Lions can't stop anyone - they've allowed 10 touchdowns in the last three games and forced one turnover - but the offense imploded twice on the last three drives.

481

Why would you run a trick play that sends Gibbs to the short side of the field where he's going to get trapped against the sideline?

190

Watching a football game on Peacock is like downloading photographs off Prodigy in the 1990s. The best-case scenario is the sound lags behind the video by five seconds. It was just as bad during the Telemundo coverage of the World Cup on Peacock.

161

Ric Flair's daughter's name is Ashley, so she's not actually named after Charlotte, NC. She did take her stage name from her hometown, though.

041

The Red Wings have scored a goal. Viktor Arvidsson jams in an Andrew Copp pass for a power-play goal at 16:52 of the second period. There still hasn't been a 5v5 goal in a Red Wings game this season.

071

The Red Wings *will* score a goal this season. They will probably score one in this game. But this team is a serious mess right now. The only blessing is John Gibson still hasn't allowed a 5v5 goal.

231

It is (rightly) considered antisemitic to hold a Jewish candidate responsible for Israel's crimes in Gaza, and no Christian candidate is forced to condemn every act of terror carried out by a Christian, or every crime committed by a "Christian" nation. But Islamophobic acts are celebrated here.

071

Dave Hogg @davehogg.bsky.social · 03/10/2026

There are constant demands for Dr. Abdul el-Sayed to condemn any violent act committed by a Islamic person or organization. He has to do it immediately and with the exact phrasing his opponents choose. Why is that acceptable, when it is considered bigoted for non-Islamic candidates?

182

The Rangers offense is struggling without Igor Shesterkin, but they lead the Red Wings 1-0 midway through the second period.

The Yellowstone Magic did this years ago without disturbing a single blade of grass. #IYKYK #blaseball

It means I haven't had a car payment since 2020, but I would have to pay $15,000 to replace my car with my own car. This is why I drive my cars until the repair costs get ridiculous.

240

A Honda Civic would be $30K, and while it is a foreign-made car, that's Canada. But that's a car with fewer features than mine. But here's the ludicrous part. I searched for a 2017 Cruze LT with 40,000 to 50,000 miles - my car. It would be about $15K. What does that mean?

100

@grae.bsky.social and I were discussing car prices and I did some research. I bought my 2017 Chevy Cruze for around $20K in, well, 2017. I've owned five cars, all GM cars, and four of them have been compacts. It would cost me at least $40K to replace it with a Cadillac CT4 - the only GM option.

It isn't about turning yourself into some saintly figure. It's about being a decent human being. You can still have fun, and you might even learn how nice it is when your partner is having fun that she will remember in the morning without regrets.

0141

Dave Hogg @davehogg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Do you know what makes it a lot easier? Practice thinking about women as complete human beings instead of notches on your bed post. If you do that, you won't text your frat buddies or your hockey teammates to come share some woman who is too hammered to make good decisions.

1100

Dave Hogg @davehogg.bsky.social · 30/09/2026

Men, this isn't complicated. Don't do anything sexual without being 100% sure you have clear consent to do it. If your potential partner isn't sure, don't. If they are too drunk to make good decisions, don't. There are even times when you have to be the one who says "no". You'll survive.

1) Shohei Ohtani, 2021 2) Shohei Ohtani, 2022 3) Shohei Ohtani, 2023 4) Shohei Ohtani, 2026 Babe Ruth switched too abruptly to make the list. He was a 6.6 WAR pitcher in 1917 and a 4.7 WAR hitter in 1918, but he never had a 3-3 season. Ed Riles and Bullet Rogan went 3-3 in the Negro Leagues.

Dave Hogg @davehogg.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Shohei Ohtani didn't have his usual brilliant offensive season, and he was limited as a pitcher due to injuries. However, he finished with 3.2 bWAR as a hitter and 3.2 bWAR as a pitcher. That's only the fourth time an MLB player has had 3 hitting WAR and 3 pitching WAR in the same season.

140

That's great, but has absolutely nothing to do with what we're discussing.

The Tigers were also under .500 when the move was made, and they could have easily had the player in question. They decided against it, went 32-34 down the stretch, struggling against lefty pitchers, and missed the playoffs. So who was Boston's new catalyst? Jahmai Jones.

040

In mid-July, the Red Sox sent a PTBNL for a guy who had just been DFA'd by his team. He played in 37 of their final 67 games, hitting .308/.408/.585 as Boston went 40-27 to go from under .500 to the second AL wildcard. He wasn't the star of Boston's surge, but he was a key contributor with the bat.

130

A brain injury bad enough for someone to be unconscious and fencing can cause you significant issues for life. It's like Russian Roulette where "winning" means you only get CTE.

0121

"Oregon quarterback Dante Moore suffered a concussion but no other injuries after a violent hit in the Ducks’ 41-27 win over USC in Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum..." I hate this formulation.

181

"The American Medical Association defines a physician as an individual who has earned a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree." Remember that when Mike Rogers, GOP minions, and Jill Stein voters tell you that Dr. Abdul el-Sayed isn't a physician.

1335

It's wrong to say anyone has ruined a rapist's future. The rapist is responsible for committing sexual assault, and they are lucky to get a future - ruined or not. Also, fuck Cornell.

0195

Today is a major event in my year - the day I change "work" in Google Maps from Comerica Park to Little Caesars Arena.

Comerica Park, soon to be Fifth Third Park, about 45 minutes after the final game of the 2026 season.

1220

Max Scherzer: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. I hope he retires and goes into the Hall of Fame with Justin Verlander. Tigers fans never got a World Series championship in the 2010s, but that was an incredible baseball team.

2121

Max Scherzer, pitching on short rest, has seven strikeouts through six innings. He's three behind Justin Verlander for eighth place on the all-time list. If this is it, he's going for bragging rights in Cooperstown in 2032.

0101

There have been a lot of fun days in the 36 years I've been covering Detroit sports, and today was near the top. It was a privilege to be in the press box.

1221

His wife Kate and one-year-old Bellamy were also on the field, and he embraced them along with all of his teammates before tipping his cap one final time and disappearing into the dugout.

030

As he did for Miguel Cabrera three years ago, A.J. Hinch brought out a very special guest to take out Justin Verlander - his seven-year-old daughter Genevieve.

260

The biggest wasp on the planet - about the size of a 737 - just landed on my desk in the press box.
