I saw one feeding on our lonicera sempervirens just the other day. Not sure it was a ruby throated one though, didn't get too close of a look

We need to get back to believing that people are essentially good and can do amazing things. I don't care if that makes me sound like a deluded hippie or whatever, it's what needs to happen. The endless security theater and paranoia of the 21st century is also hurting all of us. It fucking sucks

Hope you feel better soon. Sometimes colds are no joke. I had one a couple years ago that was almost Covid level bad, lasted a full week too

Ooh especially when it's someone playing "Can't get enough of your love". I saw a guy doing that at a party once in the 90s, not ironically, and it has stuck with me ever since

The music in this clip is in E minor, but I keep imagining it to be in A minor because of the key holder's name

Nice. It's been 17 years for me but I vape and use nicotine pouches Kinda wish I didn't do those either but it is what it currently is "Like Jung and his pipe", I've sometimes told myself

I had a '95 325i, and man was that fun to drive until coolant system woes did it in 7 years into my owning it The matchbox version looks like a good time. I wonder if they made them in Boston green

I mostly liked the show. It wasn't what I'd consider great, but it was fun and the acting was good

FYI, looked up Vintage electronics and they are in Maryland, maybe 25 miles from me! I wrote them. If the guy has what I need I may just drive up there

I'm very interested in this sort of thing We had a little mini festival in Baltimore a few years back, spread out between venues, in which the theme was multi channel audio. The Matmos guys spearheaded it...what I saw/heard was amazing

I was on tour with a band when I got the call to visit her. She was in NM and I lived and still live in Baltimore. I made it to see her before she passed but she couldn't speak above a whisper and I am hard o' hearing and couldn't understand a word. I think she knew this and understood though

Also the people whose spot it is (a long time Baltimore pie maker/musician and his son) have chickens. I took a quick video of them so I could show the kids when I got home. They were asleep, so I had to wait until today to show them

I was at a wedding all day and am just getting around to telling ppl here that I was in a band that opened for Laid Back Country Picker last night. Here they are at soundcheck. I didn't know anything about them. Wild stuff, like country fried AC/DC...I only caught the first song. Was cool though

My non-spotted bee balm is the same. It had all the carpenters and bumbles on it, while the lavender attracted all the honeybees and other smaller bees. Interestingly enough, they were European honeybees on English lavender, while the bumbles on the native bee balm were I believe American ones

Dave Heumann @daveheumann.bsky.social · 10/09/2026

Looking through my photos from this year, my non-spotted bee balm was in peak bloom towards the end of June

Such a pretty plant. Do they usually bloom so late in the season, or rather stay in bloom so late?

Astrophotographer Adam (AJ) Smadi caught this image a few hours ago from Washington state. A thin crescent Moon, sunlight illuminating the rugged lunar surface. And 2,400 times farther away—and on the other side of the Sun—mighty Jupiter, and its moons Io (left) and Ganymede (right).

A crescent Moon seen during the day, arcing from upper left to lower right of the frame. At lower centre is the full disk of Jupiter; the small dots to its upper left and lower right and Io and Ganymede, respectively.

Dave Heumann @daveheumann.bsky.social · 09/09/2026

Ok. I'm not looking this up because that would spoil the fun of the ama: where in Maryland is this stuff made and is it still being made there?

While I was reading this I realized I was scrunching both shoulders, oops There are exercises, like inhaling while tensing both shoulders upwards, then exhaling quickly while dropping/releasing them...but you have to be mentally present enough to remember to do them, which is tricky
