He hit just .207 and probably would’ve K’d more than his teammate Montgomery had he not been injured. Okamato was better, and more versatile. Respectfully disagree about Pete. David Wright’s extension was, in hindsight, not the best baseball move either, but it would be worse had he walked.

And I understand that about the eye test, I just think when metrics tell such a disparate story to perceived reality it’s suspect. I get when it’s “this guy is a little better/worse than you might think” but “actually this guy sucks/this guy is amazing” is when my eyebrow starts to rise

Dansby’s metrics have always aligned with my perception of him though. That’s my issue with defensive metrics— when they belie the eye test. Baseball-Reference has JT Snow as a net negative defensive player, and Chase Utley better (by an insane amount) than Roberto Alomar. Either assertion is insane
