Looks like a weevil Anja 🔍 Coincidentally I've just snapped one here in Spain. Mines a pinkish ground weevil (Rhytideres plicatus).

A multicoloured insect with 6 legs and two proboscis sticking out front. It almost exactly matches the brown shaded tiles it's walking upon.

For #WaderWednesday another Collared Pratincole as it sweeps through the wetlands, gulping down bugs. They must have left us on migration, as I haven't heard or seen them for a week. #birds #ElHondo

A bird that is brown on its back and top of the wings, flies above the water in a wetland. The background is green reeds out of focus. It has a thin black collar that runs from eye to eye, below the chin, thus the name. The base of its short bill is red and its belly is white (unseen). We are looking at the bird from the side and above it.

Three birds are in silhouette. At the top looking right is a Glossy Ibis, in the middle looking left is a Black-winged Stilt walking and in the lower third is a Plover, standing in the shallow water doing nothing, as Plovers do. A large brown bodied bird, wings up, as it flies to work on a Monday. Its neck and head have white speckles among the brown and its long curved bill shows it to be a Glossy Ibis or Gonzo. Under the open facing wing, shimmers of green iridescence show. The dark legs trail behind with the long toes folded up.

Some Lantana for #SundayYellow and #PhotographyBreak. This plant, although with beautiful flowers, is very hard to get rid of in the garden, with its long-growing thorny shoots, which take over. Many thanks to the Sparrows who poop them into place! 😂

I really enjoy seeing the videos and photos for #SuperSeabirdSunday. These Terns in the early morning from David are superb! I don't have anything nearly as exciting but here's a wet juvenile Slender-billed Gull, flying offshore along the Costa Blanca. #birds

An all white sea bird, wings wide open, flies in the blue Spanish sky. The narrow longish bill is starting to turn red as it matures. The chest feathers are wet, showing it has been feeding in the sea water.

Two gulls perched on an aluminium platform. One is leaving and has leapt off the platform with a wicked look in on eye, narrowed as if focussed on something. Its wings are half up, bent in the stroke and the yellow legs also bent back but not folded as yet. The gull behind it, got a fright as the other one jumped off and its wings are half open in fright. They are white all over with grey wings and backs. The bills are the standard yellow with a red dot near the end, on the lower half.

Heat haze has been a real killer for sharp images this summer. Here is a typical example; cropped 50% to show it better (or should that be worse?). It looks like high ISO but the image is actually ISO 320. Still, it is always great to see Little Terns, fuzzy or not. #TernTuesday #birds

The fire in León has completely destroyed the village of Palacios de Jamuz (90 inhabitants). The image taken by a UME fireman is terrifying. It seems like the end of days. Fortunately, everyone was evacuated before the flames reached them.

Rapistrum rugosum from earlier in June. It is part of the mustard family. This was a huge wild field of yellow flowers. A small part of the fires we are having, is down to the excellent spring rains which grew everything. Having died off, there is much more to burn than usual. #SundayYellow

A bird, wings folded, flies past carrying a bee in its curved beak. It has not yet developed the full adult colours. All the same, the chest can be seen to becoming a light blue, its chin yellow, the top of the head that rich rusty brown and the wings going from green to brown. Its eye is still brown and will become red later. It half hangs its feet down as it probably needs more landing practice! Joke. The background is the blue Spanish sky.

I am a bit short of wader photos at the moment, too hot to walk miles to the good spots at the moment. Here is a brilliant Little Grebe, doing that shake out they do after preening. What great wetland birds they are! #birds

A small wader, is up on its feet on the water & shaking the water out of its feathers. It has a reddy/brown face and black body. The floofing shows white underneath at its lower body. The short black bill has a almost florescent light green colour at the lower base of the bill. Water droplets are flying all over from the shake out. The background is water & is greenish, with rings of ripples emanating from the bird.

I nearly forgot about #WaderWednesday! Have seen a more than usual number of Kentish Plovers this summer, which is great, considering the fragile population we have here by us. This little guy was only 4 meters away, as I hid stationary behind the reeds, it still worked out someone was there! #birds

A small plover, standing on the muddy lake shoreline, the perfect place for their grubs they ferret out of the mud. It is all white below and all brown above, including a cap on its head. There are two narrow brown stripes from the beak up past its black eyes. A brown half collar is also distinctive. The background is the water up to the edge of a soggy mud surface.

Almost hidden among wild flower stems, this ground level photo, has a half hidden yellow, black & white striped small bird in the left hand side. It has a small seed in the end of it beak. Yellow flowers, out of focus are present all over the image.
