They see any authoritarian as their blue print. They adore Xi, Bukele, Orban, Kim Jong Un, Modi, Netanyahu, Bolsonaro, Milei... MAGA wants a world of nationalistic repressive states with clear areas of influence and control.

putin is pressing the accelerator because he fears the outcome of the midterms would collapse the administration and therefore his capacity to influence it

In Kharkiv today, murderhappy Russians struck a medical facility, injuring 5 people. Trump wants us to stop striking russian oil refineries and let them keep destroying our homes, hospitals, schools, and kindergartens with impunity. He blames us for fighting back against pure terrorism.

Lifting sanctions on Russia and shifting the narrative to blame Ukraine for rising oil prices opens the door to the business deals Trump & Co. have been discussing with Putin this whole time. They may help Russia restore damaged refineries under the same pretext of wanting to buy diesel.

The corruption in buying hardware to the US. The lack of training and other military standards. The stupid reliance on money to solve all their problems.

It's just symbolic. Trump has no possibility to pressure Ukraine anymore. He pushed for weapon purchases by Europe. So nothing goes directly to Ukraine. I doubt the US keeps supplying intelligence or surveillance directly.

Thank you all for your support. This situation is heartbreaking for Ukrainians because every cent russia makes on diesel funds this war. Over here, that money isn't just an abstract concept, it causes devastating damage: more destroyed towns, a harder winter, and very real loss of life.

For the Germans and Italians. Well it was mostly the colonial conflicts after WWII which change the minds of French and British (and Spanish). 1991 Eastern Europe peaceful revolutions. 1990s Ex-Yugoslavia wars ("never again"?"). Europe is always learning. Unfortunately the USA is not.

An oil terminal in Rostov is transferring its diesel to the cloud. That's where Trump can get it if he wants to.

No. This has no impact on gas prices. It has not been for months. The effect is mostly on the russian war machine. What has impact on gas prices is starting an idiotic war with Iran and choking the Strait of Hormuz and probably Bab al-Mandab too.

trump did not have a clue of what he agreed too (he thought it was a lot probably) but putin knew perfectly well the symbolism (on top of the export ban) of helping truml, and how this will put pressure to Ukraine to stop the drone attacks.

So let's get this straight: Russia just murdered over 65 people in Ukraine in less than 48 hours. Crushed a building on top of sleeping families to celebrate Putin's birthday. And today, the U.S. announces that they are lifting sanctions on Russian diesel and planning to buy some,

Another one: the short story of Anais Nin "The woman on the dunes". There's a metafiction section where the female character describes the hanging of a Russian in Paris. Showing the horror side to side with the desire.

Ivan Turgenev's "Execution of Troppmann" is a short essay, published in 1870, that gives a first-hand account of the writer attending a public execution in Paris. Turgenev's details how the drunk, unruly crowd turned a somber moment into a carnival. A deeply moving essay; I encourage you to read it.

Trump: "Today is Vladimir Putin's birthday. I'm sure you're going to celebrate it. Are you going to celebrate his birthday? I have a call set up." What the hell is wrong with you?! Celebrate? You sure? The birthday of a butcher responsible for murdering 25 people in Ukraine today?

There is also a campaign to discredit democracy. "Nothing works", "all politicians are the same", "there is no point in voting"... From there the jump to autocracy and a "strong man" who can solve all the problems is almost natural. We have seen it before, you just need a crisis (economic, social)

Not sure, trump will decide, because only he controls maga voters (like a cult), which make a difference in elections. I think he will look for a Medvedev-Putin 2008 solution. A strawman, which would have to pay him millions for the nomination, and happy to be a puppet for trump.

Dave Antarctica @daveantarctica.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It's clear that trump would pick up the one who would pay him more. And of course guarantee revenues afterwards, putting his name to every building, total immunity, etcetc...
