David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 17hMade the matcha chiffon cake from serious eats. It is good and surprisingly easy. 14 yo found the recipe and made it to bring to school, so clearly we needed one for the family too. 000
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 05/10/2026aw yeah, thanks, CVS, I'm totally going to go pick up PAT_FNAME(10)'s drugs. Hope she has some good stuff waiting -- maybe some ipecac and lactulose. 010
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026ooh tomorrow's going to be fun, isn't it? 😆 Trying to thread the timing needle - hopefully shoulder is better for climbing on Sunday, and still functional for class today. I've never gotten them together before, but it was certainly convenient. (And the nurse had mad shot skills. Zero pain. Woo.) 030
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I realize it was irresponsible for me to post that without the obligatory huge pig picture from (Shane Dunlap | TribLive). triblive.com/business/duq... 030

David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The emails from the teachers are images or PDFs. I like the organization - for example, this is from this week's newsletter, but I can't even copy-paste the entries to put them in the calendar. The in-service days are in the school calendar but the pink out & own clothes days are not. 110
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 27/09/2026made gougeres to bring to the block party. It turns out there is such a thing as eating too much puff pastry. don't think I'll be making those again for a while. 🤣 151
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 25/09/2026The phone scammers have defeated me. Five or more calls per hour for multiple hours per day making it through Google fi's spam prevention and many bypassing android phone screen. Time for the nuclear option. Hope nobody needs to call me for a while! 😭 120
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Year 3 of the 5lb CO2 tank. Only got 11 months out of it this time and the price of the refill went up from $13 to $14, but still a huge win over $17 for a 0.9lb refill with exchange for sodastream’s little co2 thingies. $0.06 / liter of carbonated water vs like $0.40/liter. 🤓 110
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 14/09/2026puppy and i are having the same reaction to monday morning* (* ok, this is only partly true. we're both sleepy but I didn't poop on the floor. yet.) 140
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 11/09/2026It amuses me that the easiest way to get the dog crate to my office was to take it on the cargo bike - the university seems to frown on the idea of me parking my car on the sidewalk next to the entrance to the building but they have kindly provided a bike rack there. 🤓 150
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 06/09/2026I let the garden be taken over by volunteer butternut squash this year, but fortunately, they roasted up very well. Which is good, because there are like five more in there. 220
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 04/09/2026niche AI comment: I used to like Artificial Analysis as a way to quickly eyeball models, but their use of TerminalBench 2.1 is making them useless for what I actually care about. It's saturated. Consider below. Gemini 3.8 "wins" TerminalBench 2.1 but is remarkably behind on 4.0, which ... 100

David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 03/09/2026my theory: spacex suffered some datacenter problems. they rent capacity to anthropic, so anthropic started barfing. when anthropic started barfing, everyone switched and tried to use openai, and openai started barfing. curious to learn what really happened. 070

David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 01/09/2026First attempt at bring your puppy to work day is going pretty well so far, though it took both me + 14yo to manage her effectively through a meeting. :) (Goal is to make sure she's well-socialized to work so that once she's capable of settling more I can bring her regularly.) 150

David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 12/08/20262026 99.2% eclipse as viewed from Iceland. 🤣 With a bonus spider that was hanging out at our hotel, which seems to have a remarkable collection of large spiders outside the windows. (It -was- noticeably dark. But very cloudy) 040
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Iceland continues to impress with its waterfalls 161
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Second Iceland impression: big waterfall! (Glymur; it's 650 feet tall) It was also about 48F with a little rain and sustained 35+ mph winds driving the rain right against us, plus a calf-deep icy river crossing, so a little dash of adventure on an otherwise short hike. 🤓 030
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 07/08/2026Iceland impression thus far: rainy, pretty, and with a surprisingly high hot spring to person ratio 260
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 03/08/2026I failed to repair the light on my back porch (the top keeps coming off) and now a second family of doves has moved in. I think I should just give up and let them have it at this point. 130

David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 17/07/2026Breathing outside without a mask is like licking a fireplace today. 🤮Horrifying to think that 100 years ago, Pittsburgh was like this nearly every day. Pour one out for air quality regulation and the EPA for helping transform the city into a great place to live. 030
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 17/07/2026RIGHT? We've hit brown but fortunately not the off-scale brown, which, uh, looks the same as the on-scale brown. Also what's with the scale changing from being +50 to suddenly going +100 and then "and up" in the same physical distance? I'm sure they get this a lot though. :) 010
David Andersen @daveandersen.bsky.social · 13/07/2026Actually, that turns out to have been wrong. PJM now announcing that we _did_ set a new peak load record of 168,158MW. So I take that back - record-setting, not rare. :) But factoring in demand response is a little tricky to juggle. insidelines.pjm.com/pjm-serves-l... 010
