Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asked the White House for clarification earlier this week after learning officials in the Trump administration might have been communicating with Iran.

According to a report by US news outlet Axios, citing two unnamed sources familiar with the issue, Israeli intelligence obtained information suggesting there may have been contacts between the Trump administration and Iranian officials to discuss a possible ceasefire.

Axios reported that Netanyahu called White House officials on Monday to ask whether such talks or exchanges of messages had taken place.

One source told the outlet the White House responded by telling Netanyahu that the Trump administration was not speaking to Iranian officials “behind his back”.
