A bunch of power-hungry also-ran Dem candidates could STILL force us to have a Republican governor. Katie Porter, Matt Mahan, Antonio Villaraigosa, Tony Thurmond, and Betty Yee's votes would have resulted in a Becerra/Steyer general election, whichever candidate received them.

From the Mercury News, a chart showing the top nine candidates for Governor. Of them, Two are GOP: front-runner Steve Hilton and also-ran Chad Bianco.

Votes for Katie Porter, Mat Mahan, Antonia Villaraigosa, Tony Thurmond, and Betty Yee, if they'd been cast for either of the top two Dem vote-getters Xavier Becerra and Tom Steyer, would have rusulted in a two-way Democratic run-off in November.

This is how my day began today: a LOUD alert of a nearby earthquake. It was weird, because the quake was about 200 miles away and magnitude 6.9: not small, but not a danger from 200 miles away. This afternoon, the LA Times reports that it was an error (their third in about five years).
