iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

(to be clear, nothing has happened recently, just saw something that made me think of this)

was thinking about something and i had a thought that felt profound enough to be worth sharing: saying goodbye is the hardest part about loving someone, no matter what circumstances it occurs in

I can’t get over how human big walk as a game is. There’s something really special about an experience like that that’s been lovingly hand-crafted by real people with the goal of bringing people together, especially in today’s world

Some people might not be aware, but it is entirely possible that without Dolly Parton we wouldn’t have had a COVID vaccine. She partly funded Moderna’s research and gave the largest individual contribution to make it all happen. Just gives you an idea of the kind of person she was.

(and mind you, I tried them in my headphones which also use mini-XLR, and had absolutely zero issues. maybe it's a beyerdynamic vs. AKG thing? idk)

you know, you'd think that mini-XLR connectors would just be compatible across the board with mini-XLR sockets, but apparently my partner's headphones only like very specific cables with a slightly wider barrel. all the cheap cables we've gotten from Amazon have caused audio dropouts

also the part where you can’t present your true self outside of VR sucks massively too

020

trace @dasnull.bsky.social · 02/08/2026

the most depressing part about exiting VR is the realization that there are thousands of good people interested in building a better world and exactly zero people interested in taking them up on it. instead of making cool art and supporting eachother, we live in a capitalist dystopia

The best part is that they have had about 80% of the features shown here since the Neos days

this is so sweet, the way you express care for people through art always warms my heart

it amuses me that "straight drive" is apparently a somewhat local term for "manual transmission" here, I mentioned it to my nesting partners who are from the midwest and the deserts and they were like "?????"

strongly considering ditching plex for jellyfin if they're going to start going to start having github-grade uptime on the centralized stuff that's required for you to access your own media

There's some kind of outage with the auth I think, every client I have (including the local server webapp) just spins trying to even load the homepage

110

trace @dasnull.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

I haven't been able to find one that checks all of the boxes for me in several years, which is a shame. It's a bit ridiculous considering I had an old Dell laptop ages ago in 2006 that had a docking station that easily solved these problems

010

trace @dasnull.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

it's horrible for aesthetics, and it's horrible for the cables because now I have to bend them 180 degrees to route them to all of the permanent fixtures on my desk

110

trace @dasnull.bsky.social · 14/07/2026

forever asking why so many thunderbolt docks choose to have all the ports on the *front* of the dock. like why wouldn't you put permanently connected stuff like monitors or storage on the back, and stuff like headphones and USB connectors for devices you don't use all the time on the front?

if you live in a high density area and use 40MHz channel width on your 2.4GHz wifi, there's a special place in hell for you (also your wifi is probably worse because of it)

do you ever think about how post-con depression seems to indicate a deeper pattern of people being generally unhappy with their living situation and the amount of community connection they experience?

do you ever notice how states will cut things like free admission to state museums or teacher salaries and yet taxes always stay the same or go up? just wondering

bonus: use the data to find prime locations for free community kitchens and determine where infrastructure upgrades for walkability are needed so people can get to them

it’s amazing to me how many folks seem to not understand that we can fund social services just by taxing wealth. we don’t need to raise taxes on working folk to have a better future
