October is upon us once more, and so too has my annual ritual begun. Just like last year, I will be posting something spooky every odd numbered day for the entire month. Be sure to check in tomorrow for part 2 of the ritual... #october #badmoonrising #spooky

Did several tutorials on the lips and nose, yet still managed to botch them both in my next several pieces. Gonna have to do more. Anime nose and lips tutorial by MikeMegaMega. Realistic nose tutorial by Brushes and Bunnies. #sketchsaturday #artpractice #facialanatomy

After doing the sketches I showed last week, I finally felt like I was on to something. So I did one more test sketch where I added color. After this successful color test, I went straight to the .pngtuber model so I could launch it before Art Fight started back in July. #sketchsaturday #artprocess

There was one tiny sketch in the corner of one of my pages with a design idea that I thought could work. So I once again attempted sketching it digitally. This was a lot closer than before, and the first real step towards the direction I ultimately ended up taking. #sketchsaturday #artprocess

Another failed attempt from the Snooter redesign process Iast year. This time in color. This one wasn't so bad, it just wasn't different enough, I couldn't get the nose right, and I still had to get better at anthro' anatomy. #dasnooter #designprocess

The Ghoul. I've kind of had a soft spot for these things. So what if they eat dead flesh? So do we, It's called a Whopper. This thing everyone is so scared of isn't a ruthless predator, but a mole-vulture? So the reason for fearing these poor creatures is purely cultural. #feedtheghouls #amtgard

Unlike ghost, the garb for Wraith is listed as dark and ragged. They have the "blink," "gift of air," and "phase bolt" abilities. So I went with a semi corporeal mass of dark slimy fabric stretched/growing over an unseen form. #amtgard #dounavathar #larp

Thought I would share some of the stranger iterations rq. I was really trying to push the envelope and experiment with radically different design directions instead of letting it just stay the same as before. #dasnooter #characterdesign #artprocess

Next up for my Monster Art submissions for the Dor Un Avathar, I did some undead creatures. This one is "Ghost," and I based it primarily off the Japanese Teru Teru Bozu tradition. #amtgard #dorunavathar #larp

More concept sketches. Adding a fur pattern was nice, but it still wasn't all that different. However there was one pattern in these sketches that I discarded when I drew it, just to come back to it later for the final design. Can you spot it? #dasnooter #characterdesign #artprocess

Next up I went with the Corrosion Beast. Because what even IS a "Corrosion Beast?" I decided to base MY Corrosion beast off an Amebelodon, and a Megatherium. I also gave it iron spikes; meant to represent how this creature metabolizes the metal it eats, and integrates it into its carapace. #amtgard

Now that my Snooter 2.0 design has been revealed, it's time I share at least some of the concept sketches I toiled over for the past year in the lead up to her re-debut. As you can see from these, I was experimenting with more feral canine shapes at first. #dasnooter #characterdesign #artprocess

Amtgard requested new Art last month for the Dor Un Avathar. Though many of the previous illustrations were beautiful, they were not printer friendly. So us LARP artists had to make submissions which were BW with almost no greyscale; practically Line Arts. So I got a little creative to convey values

An egg-shaped creature with a long neck and a hand on the end of its tongue. It's standing in a dark forest at sunset. It has floof on it's neck, ankles, and tail.

I found this sketch when I was cleaning up my old papers, thought is was good enough for a Sketch Saturday. Was practicing texturing the 3d form. Also made a point of adding strong highlight. Did all this with ballpoint so that I'd have to draw with intentionality and consideration. #sketch

040

Da Snooter @dasnooter.bsky.social · 19/03/2026

Once again, I needed to relax. So I kinda just drew whatever creature popped into my head. I'm pretty sure this is not the first time I've tried to draw a furpent thing, so I guess this is a reoccurring motif when my brain just doesn't want to draw anything complicated.

051

Da Snooter @dasnooter.bsky.social · 14/03/2026

I normally do TraditionalArt for #sketchsaturday but I was experimenting with a new sketch brush and thought it would be worth sharing. I learned that despite all my practice angling the snout in different directions, I'm still drawing the eyes as if they're looking straight ahead. Any suggestions?
