What in the Alan Jones is this shit?
Sydney private school made students share bed with teachers, inquiry hears
By Emily Kowal
October 12, 2026 - 12.03pm
A Sydney private school has been accused of making students share beds with teachers, and the principal walked in front of a child naked during a homestay arrangement, a state parliamentary inquiry has heard.
Speaking on the third day of hearings into Redeemer Baptist School and its church, which has been described by former members in the inquiry as a "cult", former student Emma Hughes said during mandatory school camps, students would have to share cabins with teachers. In her submission to the inquiry into the Parramatta school, Hughes, who was not a member of the church community, said that in 1998 it was often necessary for a student to share a bed with a teacher, as there was not enough space in the cabin.
"Although we did not want to share beds with our teachers, we didn't have a choice," she wrote. Hughes said in the submission nothing "untoward" happened to her while sharing a bed, but the practice was
"clearly inappropriate and unsafe".

Poor fella’s reputation is taking a hell of a beating currently (not physically, like - for example - his wife) 🤢
Wood's lawyer, Matthew Cuskelly, sought bail and said his client denied the allegations. He cited a psychologist's report that said Wood was suffering from "severe depression".
"He ought to be given the opportunity to engage with mental health professionals,"
Cuskelly said.
"And also try to salvage something of his professional reputation and career, which is taking a hell of a beating at the moment.
"Ultimately, as all families have, there was problems. And my client had been enduring the hardship of attempting to quarantine those problems from his family for some period of time. It was agonising."

Shuttering tutoring company tells parents to 'use Al instead'
AFR
financialreview A Sydney tutoring business will shut its doors at the end of the week, telling customers that their money would be better spent on "cheaper solutions".
The closure of Dymocks Tutoring and Talent 100, which operates five centres across Sydney, comes after the company said the majority of students could receive a similar service through artificial intelligence tools such as Claude, Gemini and OpenAl.
"The Dymocks Group does not believe the trade-off in cost is worth it any more," chief executive Mark Buckland (pictured on the left) told the Financial Review.

Sydney Marathon protest fears: NSW Police, organisers on edge
First Lieutenant Roy Oryon, a former deputy commander, is understood to be among a delegation of up to 40 current and former IDF personnel and associates visiting Australia for Sunday's event.
With tension running high on all sides of the Israel-Palestine conflict, NSW Police and organisers are understandably on edge given a 42.2km marathon held on city roads is almost impossible to fully secure.
It is understood Oryon will be given police protection for the entirety of the race.

This was airline lobby group CEO Stephen Beckett (or Neckett, if you prefer) having a sook yesterday about the “catastrophic” delays caused by the measures enacted to safely manage “operational restrictions” (aka control tower staff shortages)
Peak body Airlines for Australia chief executive, Stephen Beckett, said the "catastrophic" delays will have the knock-on effect of people missing their international flights.
"This is a persistent problem that Airservices says they have fixed," Mr Neckett said.
"Australia has an incredibly safe aviation system and our air traffic controllers do a fantastic job - we need Airservices to ensure they have enough people and robust rosters to do the job."
He offered a glib assessment of Airservice's issues.
"Another day, another Airservices delay. Tens of thousands of Australian travellers will have their commute impacted by this - they will miss international connections," Mr Neckett said.
"This is catastrophic for the national network - we need to know what is going on."

A source close to Stefanie, but not authorised to comment publicly, confirmed to this masthead that she had, in early June, filed a detailed "statement of no complaint" with investigators over the alleged domestic violence incident at the couple's luxury St Kilda penthouse in March.
The source also confirmed Stefanie would not give evidence in any upcoming court proceeding, which is set to resume in the Melbourne Magistrates' Court in October.
Catalano, 59, is facing eight criminal charges including making threats to kill and false imprisonment.
Police allege that Antony Catalano swung a clothes iron at his wife's head, choked and strangled her during the alleged assault. The court heard she was admitted to hospital with a broken tailbone.
