I went with my brother to see the drone metal band Sunn0))) tonight. Truly incredible experience. If planets could listen to music, this is it
The members of the band, dressed in black robes, raise their arms on stage. The crowd mirrors them. There is fog lit by white light.A spectrogram shows a constant stream of sound. The harmonics indicate a low-pitched, consonant drone.

Science folks...is there an explanation for this? I usually teach radiometric dating to 8th graders with an experiment where we record the temperature of hot water as it cools over time. The trend is roughly exp decay, but this year I tried to make the curve fit better. Why a fractional exponent?
A desmos graph shows the temperature above room temp of water cooling down over 45 minutes. An exponential regression fits moderately well, but a more complex function fits better. The exponent is raised to the two-thirds power.

In my thermodynamics class, I review countable and uncountable nouns as a way to get students to understand the micro/macro distinction. I love this MiB quote for this
A pair of slides for a thermodynamics class. The top slide says physics is about "things" and chemistry is about "stuff," and the bottom slide says that distinction is artificial and useful. It features the Men In Black quote "a person is smart...people are dumb" as an illustration of the importance of different levels of analysis.

I'm giving a practice quiz in algebra 2 today, and it's 3 pages, so I figured I could put the answer key (shrunk to fit on one page) on the back. But with 3 pages, there's still an empty quarter page left. So, I made it appear recursively. Lol #ITeachMath

As the screenshot shows, I have officially reached half of the life expectancy for my demographic. All in all, I would say being alive has been acceptable I know no one is promised tomorrow, but even if my life was halfway through, at least I got to have a really cute dog youtu.be/Tj2v6k6NqOc

Preparing my lesson plans for this week, I came across upon one of my favorite slides I've ever made #EduSky #ITeachPhysics
This slide, titled "x and t are relative," is an explanation of simple relativity of measurement for location, time, and velocity. It features an image of a crowd of 12-inch rulers saying "all hail the one true ruler" in adoration of a 12-inch ruler on a throne wearing a crown. The text reads:

"Measurements of space and time are relative, or observer-dependent, because the universe doesn’t have built-in rulers or clocks.
We have to bring our own rulers and clocks, and there’s no reason mine is “correct” and yours is “wrong.” There is no experiment we can do to prove which frame of reference is the right one.
Therefore, we must abandon the idea that there is such a thing as a correct one."

So many weird quirks of Earth Science...I remember learning about how the Coriolis Effect shapes ocean currents and how the North Atlantic gyre just happens to make it easier to ship slaves from Africa to the Americas. Just a coincidence of Earth's rotation and location of its continents.

Absolutely! This slide is meant to illustrate work that the students will have just done. I will project the top slide onto a white board, and volunteers will fill out the grid. They will notice the pattern, and we will discuss it. THEN I transition to the animation and make the pattern stick!
Two consecutive slides for algebra 2. The first slide gives students space to work out the coordinates of the vertex of a variety of related parabolas. The second slide shows an animation that connects their work to the pattern.

I'm revamping my materials for the quadratics unit, including my tutorial on completing the square. I've always struggled with how to explain it without making it confusing, and I think this visual will help nicely. The graph above is showing the convergence of geometric series. I wanted the window to focus on points at consecutive integers. The horizontal movement on the animation is the integral of this sum of normal distributions. The bell curves narrow to make the window slow down enough to see later points

My first reaction to this question is that it's an obvious AI mistake, that frequency and wavelength are two sides of the same coin But I suppose that if the listener is moving relative to the source, a perceived frequency will no longer be associated with its typical wavelength #ITeachPhysics

Here is the slide that I made that gif for...I am going to make waaaay too much of an emphasis on the different pronunciation of "progress" as a noun and a verb
A google slide titled "The exponential function - quintessential growth modeling" with an embedded animation. The text reads:

As we have discussed, a mathematical model doesn’t just show a phenomenon’s progress (n), it also shows how that phenomenon can progress (v).
The exponential function f(x) = ex is the perfect coincidence where a model’s rate equals its state.
This makes it an ideal basis for other kinds of growth models. We will see a few today.
