Nice! Same with the pics I took. That was only one section of books.

Thank you! I have driven through all of New England but unfortunately didn’t make that stop. Next time?

Good to see the Appalachian Mountains again. Clears the mind and stirs the soul. #HarlanKy #Appalachia #mountains

Stopped by Moonbow Tipple Coffee & Sweets during a visit to my childhood hometown of Harlan, KY, and I don’t know when I last saw so many books in one place that isn’t a library or bookstore. Also, great coffee, fancy drinks and sweet treats. #HarlanKY #Appalachia

I woke up this morning and inexplicably one of the first things I thought of is another on-the-road crime-spree film, BADLANDS (1973, director Terrence Malick, starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek) that I much prefer to B&C. So good! Highly recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen it.

So funny, I just gave a similar reply and then saw yours, Jacqui! Great minds …

Love this! Probably an unpopular opinion, but I prefer Gun Crazy to Bonnie and Clyde, which somehow had lost some of its appeal for me last time I watched it.

That’s a winning trifecta right there.

Thanks for my periodic reminder that I somehow *still* haven’t seen this. 🙄

Love the scene where the girl is banging on the door to get in before she is attacked. We don’t see the terror, only blood trickling under the door, but it’s no less intense.

Without the Oscar-nominated performances of Douglas and Hackman, the film might've drifted into sappy movie-of-the-week mode. Kudos also to Oscar-nominated screenplay writer Robert W. Anderson for the film adaptation of his play from two years earlier.

... California to join his fiancée. I liked the film despite reservations that the title seemed manipulative and trite. Never judge a movie by its title, I suppose. It effectively explores intense family dysfunction, though not nearly as deeply as, say, INTERIORS or AUTUMN SONATA. #FilmSky

This track takes over a minute to kick in, but when it does—whoa!—what an intense search through the ruins of a failed relationship. It’s a magnificent closing track, musically & lyrically, to one of my fave albums. The Psychedelic Furs - All of This & Nothing youtu.be/2nJwgpTsVKw?si… via @YouTube

Thanks, Rob. Such a powerful film. It left me feeling unsettled at the end. I’ve only seen it once and am overdue for a rewatch.

I haven’t seen The Offence or If … Going on my ever-growing list.

Thank you! It’s honestly impossible to choose just five.

... some time ago on TCM's #NoirAlley. Little did I know how compelling it would be. Watching Dane Clark, I thought of characters such as John Garfield's in THE BREAKING POINT, another noir character whose desperation elicits sympathy despite bad decisions. Definitely worth a watch!

True. It’s been years since I saw King Solomon’s Mines, and I honestly remember very little about it, but I *think* I sort of liked it … or at least didn’t roll my eyes like I did with Mogambo which, to be fair, has its share of fans.

Darrell Clem @darrellclem.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

Better than ⬇️ My take on MOGAMBO (1953) White moviemakers go from Hollywood to Africa to make a tedious film about white people involved in a shallow love triangle in Africa. It has a few interesting moments—see on-location filming—but stock footage is jarring. Definitely not John Ford’s best.

Paris, Texas comes to mind as another film for that list.

030

It actually does, very much! 👏

* I use the term ‘leader’ very loosely here

Haven’t seen this in decades but I remember it being compelling though not great (definitely no Taxi Driver, as you say). Due for a rewatch.

I love the technique *and* the story of the hollowness of unbridled capitalism and the rise to and fall from power. But it is a rather cold film. Last time I watched, this scene reminded me of our disgusting US leader’s claims of voter fraud.

A newspaper headline from the film Citizen Kane declares FRAUD AT POLLS.

It's a quirky, far-fetched story about a woman who each month gives her apartment key to a different man with problems she aims to fix, all while facing her own mortality. Sara chooses Charlie for November and they fall in love. Sounds sappy, right? It's not; it's tender but complicated. #FilmSky
