The September House; I had to force myself to keep going at a few points.

This reminds me of Spider Man:Life Story and Fantastic Four:Life story (both awesome, btw) which covered one decade per issue. You could probably have each session be the definitive event of that decade, round things out with some flashbacks, and then skip forward 10 years for the next session.

I have to give it to Rush, but New Pornographers and Metric are not far behind.

Otherside Picnic is a Japanese novel series about two lesbians exploring a dangerous alternate reality. It is much more focused on the horror stuff than romance as far as I've read though.

Someone should be able to store their spells in their shadow, or their reflection. Not sure who though.

There are also graphic novel adaptations of the first 6 books out. So far there's been one per year so the whole series will take awhile if they keep going.

There's a great series of episodes on the podcast Going Rogue where the host does a ton of research and digs into all the changes across versions. Her conclusion is that every version had major problems.

We watch the 1987 broadcast of Muppet Family Christmas every year (on YouTube with full commercials), definitely enhances the experience.

I remember people being mad that Traehern felt more like the main character than the PC. But that's really a symptom of the strategy they doubled down on: a silent generic protagonist can't decide to form an international alliance and give a big speech about it.

Several x-stories are about 'cures' for mutants. Are there actual medical treatments that completely block a gene from being expressed at all, or do we only deal with individual expressions / the effects of genes? (Hope that makes sense, I'm not sure if I'm using the right terms)

Maybe not 'greatest' but worth discussing: The Suicide Squad (2021) led to DC movies being overhauled and James Gunn being put mostly in charge of the whole thing. Superman (2025) was solid, there are a lot of movies queued up, and Marvel is floundering so the eventual impact may be large.

I learned to drive in one of those; my grandpa had one and we had a minivan so it was slightly better. Horrible back window that you could barely see out of, otherwise it was weird looking but mostly fine.

This is a cool idea. I would say the ship looks like a red-brick academic building with class and lab space. It stays in each plane for a few months, so the researchers just teach classes / give teaching space to whoever lives there. POV is their grad student or possibly the ship's librarian.

You would probably like Wayne Family Adventures. It's very good and all about Batman having feelings and trying to raise his kids.

True, but Peter isn't Miles' dad so it's not quite as close of a parallel.

It happens in Batman stuff when Bruce's kids try to decide who, if anyone, should get the name+costume after he dies. Damien has a similar vibe to Rumi even, with the 'am I inherently unworthy because of who my other parent is' kind of plot. That's the only one I can think of though.

A list could be cool. Either 'spend the XP to pick one of these, otherwise gm picks' or a list that's like 'for each XP you spend, pick one of these options'.
010
Ken A @darkportent.bsky.social · 05/06/2025
The task resolution system itself is great; interesting choices and sounds fun to watch. Something about 'sacrifice XP to choose how it happens' bothers me though. It feels like 'if you enjoy narrating or have a fun idea, then do that, otherwise take XP'.

I'm in Los Angeles. LA County is massive - bigger than Delaware. The City of Los Angeles is much smaller but still big and weirdly shaped (surrounds Santa Monica and several other cities). So if I said "the city" I would be trying to differentiate between the two.

www.the-isb.com/2024/08/11/t... by @theisb.bsky.social hasn't been linked yet and is well worth a read. You're mostly getting non-fiction but there's a lot of good fiction about people playing games, so I'll also suggest DIE by Kieran Gillen and Dungeon Club by Molly Knox Ostertag.

This is part of why I like painting stuff (minis, etc) when I'm not up to making something from scratch. You still make choices about colors and stuff, but there's no blank paper to stare at.

I suspect a lot of the backlash is jerks saying "I would prefer no romance ever to the possibility that two dudes might kiss" in the same way that many other good things have been ruined by conservatives.

Definitely agree. It's very weird to me that comics have gone this way, because 'who should Peter Parker date' (or Kitty Pryde, Wolverine, etc) were major points of debate in comics for decades.

This matches my experience with UCLA health. I asked a question about an existing condition at a physical and they double billed me. They said it was both a diagnostic and preventative visit, and therefore it was two visits. They'll take any excuse to get more money out of you.

Guild Wars 2 was great at these. My favorite example: Orr is a continent that sunk and then was raised up again. A mix of huge weathered ruins and giant coral, everything there is undead (including all of the animals). It just feels weird and dangerous, especially when you first get there.

There's a fun bit in the booklet that comes with The Discworld Map; the artist says he presented his first draft to Terry Pratchett, and then Pratchett patiently explained to him why his geography made no sense ("Do you know what a rain shadow is?") and asked him to fix it.
