It would have been interesting if we’d balanced the original game to always make you feel as though you were constantly breaking even with your expenses and upgrades. But yeah, by the end Edward has founded a functional town, put together a fleet, and is sitting on a hoard.

Yeah, Suttree has a lot of high points, but it's also his most meandering and plotless book. Took me a while to settle in.

Darby McDevitt @darbymcdevitt.bsky.social · 03/08/2026

AtPH is a much more focused book for sure. I’ll probably agree with you if I read it again. Have you tackled Sutree?

Solid pick, but book 2, The Crossing, just killed me with the wolf chapter. Gorgeous.

Today marks the 6-month anniversary of the release of my novel, The Halter, and I couldn’t be happier with its reception. Thanks to all my readers, past, present and future. And to Assassins Creed fans hungry for more near-future Sci-Fi simulation craziness, this is your new obsession.

I wrote the original pitch document for what I called then “pirate radio.” Then Jean had the idea to connect them to the Benjamin Franklin almanac pages mechanic from AC3. And finally the audio team drew up the list of shanties. (I think my original pitch had just 10 songs or so).
