Happy to see that Screen Burn is addressing criticisms so quickly after launch. Haven't had a chance to see for myself yet but with any luck this and some other tweaks will make the game a much easier recommendation.

I reviewed a Silent Hill game!! Feels weird to be able to say that. In a lot of ways, Townfall epitomizes the series for me. It's a deeply flawed game, but Screen Burn's creativity breaks through each and every one of them to deliver an experience that I can't help but recommend.

I stayed at a hotel near the Nintendo Museum and found a guestbook, so I drew something in it. Everyone there was incredibly kind and welcoming. It became a wonderful memory for me. I’m truly grateful to them—and to Nintendo for making this experience possible.

This paragraph in particular felt necessary for me to include. Especially since I'm seeing Townfall resonate with a lot of people in ways that Silent Hill f did not, despite the fact that for me SHf was a(n admittedly flawed) masterpiece. This series' unique strengths deserve contextualization.

I’m sure every Silent Hill fan is familiar with the phrase “It’s great, but the combat sucks”. It’s a sentiment that’s hung over the series since its inception, given that it was directly influenced by Capcom’s Resident Evil series and, as such, has been understandably compared to it since.

Despite this, the series has always been defined by its grim, mature stories, and beautifully repulsive settings and atmosphere. It’s here in which Silent Hill: Townfall manages to maintain what makes the series so special while reflecting the creativity and ambition of its team, delivering an experience that had me simultaneously yelling profanities at the screen and eagerly excited to progress towards the next cutscene.
