There's a decent chunk of cards that help you and also hurt your opponent, like gain 1 plant production, any player loses 1 plant production, and a few rare cards like Ants that can "steal" counters, but most of them can still be done even if nobody has any of the resources.

Off the top of my head I'd recommend Ecos: The First Continent, it's a neat game, and is all about getting points by collectively building a little ecosystem (but still fully competitive)

Not really, there's some interaction in blocking spaces and you can build a city next to a forest for points even if an opponent placed the forest, plus I guess you're all using the same O2, temp, and oceans and can jockey for certain bonuses, but it's mostly everyone building their own engine.

True, in-person is definitely the best way to play, but if your goal is just to generate a dataset of like 500 games of TM it's a decent option (plus haven't checked, but assume there's some kind of online matchmaking system). Not to mention playing Ascension with a ~2k deck with every expansion :P

Oh yeah, it doesn't seem particularly good, just feels weird that it kinda punishes your opponent (or at least works much better for you) if they run enough lands instead of "You can get away with 22 lands if you have enough rocks."

Set up the top of your library, put 6 +1/+1 counters on your commander (or 3 and then shuffle away the unwanted cards when you cast Pir :P), draw a card, up your storm count, and put an instant in your 'yard for one mana, or worst case digging 3 cards for 1 is a decent hail mary option.

Doesn't annoy me, but for the "play it anyway" bit, I can say the time limit in Majora's Mask isn't nearly as restrictive as it seems, they built the game around it and have so many checkpoints where even if you have to reset early you can skip a lot of the stuff you already did.

Saheeli is basically just better, extra color, extra stats, lets you pop in right away, triggers on more stuff, don't think there's any real drake-specific support, tokens are basically the same (pointless or getting +4/+4). But I'd go Talrand for style points.
