Oh hello, #WriterShareWedneday. THE CATAPHRACT OATH is a genre-bending mashup of the rollicking spirit of THE THREE MUSKETEERS and the hard-hitting giant robot action of GUNDAM (or whatever your favorite mecha show happens to be). Available on KU!

The cover of Marc Edmond Best's THE CATAPHRACT OATH. It depicts a white-armored steampunk robot standing with a sword in one hand and its other arm outstretched. A dashing woman with a rapier and a plumed hat stands on the robot's outstretched hand.

Why yes, actually! Like, check out the cover to the 2nd book. It should give you the general idea. (Art by @jcalebdesign.bsky.social )

So I pre-ordered @dandock.bsky.social 's Batman book, which meant it has arrived a day EARLY! ... will I have time to read it before I go on vacation? Probably not! But it's something to look forward to once I get back!

Finally managed to get my TTRPG crew together to run #Umdaar again, at which point they got to face the TOMB OF DRACULON. And I didn't even use all the skeleton minis I have laying around. (I should get more skeletons anyway).

There are any number of options, here. It could be a straight-up robot game, obviously. Or something tactical like Front Mission? Or even a RPG of some stripe. Like, Xenogears has fights both in and out of your mecha, doesn't it? Or maybe just a sidescrolling beat 'em up. #TBBChat

I mean, I write about mecha, so there's a whole list of stuff I can point at. This said, Final Fantasy 3 (okay, fine, FF6) was one of my first exposures to the concept of #Steampunk, and as such is a huge influence on my books. (Even if I haven't shoehorned in an Opera scene yet). #TBBchat

I mean, the fact that the protagonist of THE CATAPHRACT OATH has a very large dog named Lily is kind of a major part of the book, so yeah. Lily, in turn, is based on a Rhodesian Ridgeback my family used to have by the name of Buster.

Exodite sauropod? Sounds like some Dino Riders vibes, and I approve.

"What if D'artagnan was a sword lesbian with a giant robot?" If that sounds like your jam, check out THE CATAPHRACT CHRONICLES, my swashbuckling clockpunk mecha adventure series. Available on KU! There's also free prequel available to anyone who joins my mailing list, so bonus #BluePit #F #SF #P

The cover to THE CATAPHRACT OATH, depicting a white-armored mech with a sword. A woman in a plumed hat, holding a rapier, stands upon the mech's extended left arm

The cover to THE CATAPHRACT ERRANT, showing a white-armored mech with a sword fighting a larger grey-armored robot with an axe amidst some burning flames. A man with a musket cringes in the foreground.

The cover to ON THE VIRTUES OF A FINE CLOAK. It is a still life depicting a table with various wineglasses, coins, and cards on it. A dagger is stuck into the table, and a cloak is thrown over a chair.

He needs a job. She needs an engineer. The Kingdom needs a hero. It's THE THREE MUSKETEERS + GUNDAM in THE CATAPHRACT OATH, a #swashbuckling #clockpunk #mecha adventure! Wherein a countess hires a disgraced engineer to salvage an ancient war machine. Available on KU! #BluePit #P #SF #F

Fellow authors: without any context, what's the first line of your current WIP? This line is subject to change, as this is a real ugly first draft (is there any other kind?) but I think I may be onto something.

A scene from today's #TTRPG nonsense! Umdaar, to be specific. I think my favorite part was one of the players asking me "Wait, you have more than one catman pirate mini?" Good times.

Two beers in on a Thursday, and I just learned #Unhingedpit is a thing? The problem is, my standard pitch of "Like The Three Musketeers, only with Giant Robots" already sounds a little unhinged? But y'all should go read my book anyway. It's on Kindle Unlimited, even! #F #SF #Swashbuckling #Mecha

I've probably mentioned this before, but I absolutely love #RiverCityGirls2. As it almost feels like a game made for me, specifically. "Oh, you listen to Mega Ran? He's on the soundtrack?" "Oh, Jam's your Guilty Gear main? We'll put her in the game too!" Best beat 'em up there is.

This random #reapermini guy may be one of the best paintjobs I've done on a mini (and I'm not a very good painter). White basecoat, a little bit of brown/black/bone for various details, and then just a shitload of black ink wash to bring out detail. I should paint more werewolves.

Just got back from @mx-s-314.bsky.social's Marvel #FASERIP game! Good times, much nerdery. I think my favorite part, however, was the table looking at the green/yellow/red spread on successes, and deciding that it was a "Salsa Scale," with degrees of success being described in terms of spiciness.
