Sunday I had another go with The Men Who Would be Kings in a small Isandlwana setting. Hindsight I realised that the Brits were under sized compared to the last game. Next time I will arrange the Brits lengthways so will have more room and have flanks. I’m finding the rules a bit simple.

Casualties removed. The Zulu units are about 75% intact. Brits would be wiped out next turn.

Finished my 2nd test game of The Men Who Would be Kings. Took 4 1/2 hours so would be a good one day demo game. I had a similar result to last time with the Zulus capturing the Hospital courtyard. Will see if more regiments will improve results for them. Next up will try a small Isandlwana scenario.

It’s that time of year when I lose my mind. I think in future I will keep the black G-Shock to winter time and the chrome one to Summer time. The black Tissot was bought as a travel watch being so simple to change the time on. The other chrome one was used for work but I kept misreading the time.

More updating of old terrain. The hedge rows were given me by a club mate. He had used nails to hold the sponge which went rusty and were dangerous. I ripped them out and used the excess sponge to bulk out some trees. The trees got some flock on the sponge and bases. The trees are for DBMM.

I’m making progress on my Order of Saint George army. Dated 1522 but looking more like 1565 I suspect. I’ve been inspired by the current ceremonial uniforms as seen in Malta. I have painted up a Sarrisa Precision desert Castle but scratch built the tower.

Up cycling or refurbished Bellona vacuum formed walls. I had painted these in the late 80’s and were a nuisance to use as the would move around being so light. I cut up some mdf left over from building kits and based them.

My partner came home and caught me undercoating 10mm German Paratroopers. “Why is your army so small? Looks silly.” My answer was “so you can get more on the table” I should have said “they are much cheaper”.

Saturday played a 15mm game of Battlegroup set in Italy using a friends setup. I used his British and surprisingly won. We only used Infantry and real world tactics worked. Am now looking again at doing Crete. In 10mm I can do Company or 15mm can do platoons for about the same cost.

I was originally going to use Rapid Fire in 10mm.

I nearly forgot that two weeks ago I was in a DBMM competition over two days. Games went 15 To 10, 15 to 10, 15 to 10 and lastly 25 to 0. Last game was against the winner of the tournament and I came last.😥 When I got home I rewrote the list after getting some advice on my Army and discovered.🧵

Some figures for my Order of Saint John 1522 DBMM army. The Foundry Halberdiers (mercenary) were a test batch that I decided were too red so the Wargames Atlantic crossbowmen (mercenary) were painted more random.

Had a great game of DBMM. My terrain selection, positioned by dice was rather mean to my opponent but worked well. Luckily I thought he would try a flank attack so positioned one command to defend against it. My Army was hardly bothered and he had one shattered command and a disheartened one.

Initial terrain placement, mine were built up area with road and river.

Building a Sarrisa Precision desert castle for my Order of Saint John DBMM army.The tower looked too large and would probably cost an excessive amount of points so I built my own. The leftover frames of other kits make nice detail bits.

Another three regiments that needed sorting out. One needed the shields repositioning the other two bases are new. The one marked -uVe- is the second uVe regiment. It was assembled from two skirmisher units which weren’t useful in previous games.

A regiment of Perry Zulus, my 11th. The movement trays have shields to indicate their position in the formation and dice holders for wounds and shock. I went through the Army to name each regiment for ease of identification rather than strict historical accuracy.

I haven’t watched the final as I thought the Formula 1 would be more interesting. From the sounds of it I made the correct decision although I can watch the replay. Good to see the French and English can still have a civil game.

So thats it then. I followed five teams through the World Cup and watched about 80%of the games. My top two teams are playing for the runner up 3rd and fourth places. I probably wont watch the final live so I can have a lie in.

I’ve not been able to progress with much hobby work the last couple of days. It’s been very wet and extremely cold. I have cleaned up some Wargames Atlantic Conquistadors as Army of Saint John crossbow men. My hands are now stiff and cold and can’t currently do the flesh and rifles on my AZW Brits.

As I cannot locate my Zulu regiment notes I had to start again. So in “Bill Making Stuff” style I’ve drawn up the shields. I just have to work out the names of each regiment. I want to add two figures to each regiment and make another three new ones so matching paint jobs is vital.

I think that I am finally done with GW rules. I set aside my metal Sisters of Battle as their Rhinos were replaced with new versions before I had finished painting all of mine.Then I abandoned my Valhallens as there did not seem a way of proxying them under the new rules. Now my Orks need rebasing.

Once I finish the figures who defend the wagons and buildings I will have the 150 (143) figures need to defend at 1 to 1 scale. The Zulus I intend to have 450 rather then the 4500 . Should be interesting to see if the rules produce the same results.

As we are heading into winter and it’s too cold to decorate outside I’m getting some extra hobby time. In spare moments I’m assembling an M4A3E8 with 105mm from conversion kits that I tried to sell off and left overs from previous conversions. I could just buy a new kit for this and save some time.🤔

Recently a club member was selling off his collection. I managed to pick up the Warlord Games Rorkes Drift barricades and wagon plus twenty plastic Brits, so doubling the amount of both that I had already. I’ve just cleaned up the resin bits and assembled the Brits to go into the buildings.
