Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Penguins with two of their most complete performances of the season this week. Nice little dub streak has them back in the second wild card by points percentage. 0150
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 03/01/2026Chinakhov today is what he looked like at his best with CBJ. Was always a matter of bringing it on a consistent basis 180
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 03/01/2026There’s an element of unluckiness but Rutger needs to figure out this puck bouncing on him every other shift thing 270
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 03/01/2026For as much time as he missed during his prime, Sidney Crosby has been remarkably healthy in the latter stages of his career. Over the past four seasons he’s played in all but two of the Penguins’ 285 games. 290
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 02/01/2026Bryan Rust discourse is fascinating. I could sit here all day diving into my thoughts but it generally seems like a lot of PIT fans are hanging onto what made him a successful NHLer versus the player he is now. 370
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 02/01/2026Sidney Crosby is pacing for 48 goals this season. That would be the highest single-season mark for a player 38 years of age or older in NHL history. 0176
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Letang continues to be a painful watch. What in the world was that move off the rush to end the period? 280
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Mantha is feeling it tonight and Brazeau is the hottest player in the league right now. What a goal 0120
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 31/12/2025I love how Kindel battles to get the puck back after making a poor play or getting stymied 1v1. That extra juice will push him to borderline stardom in several years. I’m so confident he’s gonna be a productive and effective two-way player. A+ draft pick. 2160
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Justin Brazeau now leads NHL regulars in goals per hour and shooting percentage 1133
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 31/12/2025Jackson Blake has not come anywhere close to annoying me as much as his father used to. Plenty of time for that to change though 130
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 31/12/202587’s edge work is quite frankly absurd for his age. Everyone is so used to it that we don’t bring it up as often as we should. 2143
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 29/12/2025Chinakhov has some legit offensive talent that he’s never really honed into any sort of consistency. Not a drag in his own end. Still young enough to put it together. Don’t mind the player himself but I do question the cost of acquisition and his fit with PIT. Time will tell. 0140
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 29/12/2025NHLers scoring 5v5 goals at a higher per hour rate than Justin Brazeau: Brad Marchand Nathan Mackinnon That’s it. 2275

Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 05/12/2024Not to be dramatic but Jesse Puljujarvi is getting screwed by the Penguins. • 4th on PIT in 5v5 points per hour • 1st on PIT in 5v5 attempts per hour • 4th among PIT forwards in 5v5 xG share Not a guy I’d be scratching in favor of *checks notes* Matt Nieto … 2192
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 04/12/2024The opportunistic tallies were nice but the Panthers are probably going to beat the Penguins by multiple goals. 020

Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 01/12/2024I’m not going to sit here and tell you the Penguins have turned a corner and might be able to get back in the mix but thank god they’re playing watchable hockey over this recent stretch. That’s all I ask at this point. And get 87 his points of course. 2221

Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Tomasino is doing an excellent job of disrupting the opposition’s breakout. Taking smart angles to eliminate space and getting his stick on the puck with regularity. 0100
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 30/11/2024How much longer are the Penguins going to do the whole "you battled back from a significant injury so we feel obligated to put you in the lineup even though you shouldn't be" thing with Matt Nieto? Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 29/11/2024Four of the Penguins’ defensemen have had a complete bozo moment already and somehow Erik Karlsson is not one of them. This game is going to get sloppy. 170
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 29/11/202495 NHL defensemen have played at least 350 minutes at 5v5 this season. Among that group, Matt Grzelcyk ranks 92nd with a 42.4% expected goal share, per Evolving-Hockey. 041
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Crosby line was really good tonight. Scored 3 times without 87 recording a shot (which has happened 3 times in his last 4 games). Malkin line struggled big-time. So much so that it wouldn't surprise me if they cut the Tomasino top-six experiment short. Dicey, but a fun win. 290
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 28/11/2024The Captain’s gotta know better than to attempt that pass. Immediately sparked VAN’s counterattack. Irresponsible hockey with a third-period lead. 020
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 28/11/2024It's gonna take a long time for me to see Tomasino on the ice and not think he's right-handed Teddy Blueger. 140
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 28/11/2024Kris Letang has only 3 points (1 G, 2 A) at 5v5 this season. Adjusted for ice time, he's producing at the second-lowest rate of his career at 5v5 (0.52 points per hour). 010
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 25/11/2024I am a big fan of Philip Tomasino’s game. 23 years old. Right-shot center. Haven’t watched his NSH tape from this season to see why the production isn’t there, but I like this trade a lot for the Penguins. No-brainer at that cost of acquisition. 360
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 24/11/2024I’m all for the Penguins bottoming out at this point to secure a premium draft pick. The potential problem with leaning into that too much is becoming Anaheim. Losing is like skunk spray. Once the stench sets in, it takes a loooooong time to get rid of. 0110
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Penguins getting booed off the ice the night Crosby scores his 600th. Sickening. 0133
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 24/11/2024The Penguins are on pace to finish the season with a -121 goal differential. I’m not kidding. 2103
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Feeling a bit sappy about the greatness and longevity of this Penguins core as they rapidly approach the finish line. “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it.” 1161
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Sidney Crosby is the greatest hockey player ever not named Gretzky or Lemieux. Argue with a wall. 4383
Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Tough goal to allow there. Crosby was anticipating the wraparound pass to the slot and left McBain unmarked. 030

Danny Shirey @dannyshirey.bsky.social · 23/11/2024People keep asking the Penguins to have some pushback. Have you considered they just aren’t good? Like, at all? Struggling to generate? They aren’t good. Can’t sustain pressure? They aren’t good. Can’t play with any sort of structure? They aren’t good. 2131
