My kiddos insisted that we all do Inktober together again this year. I’ve got my Sumi ink out and … learning. I don’t normally do anything in ink and I’m not drawing any of these prior to ink. They are helpful studies and I’m enjoying my “I suck at this” phase. Practice is fun. #Inktober2026

Day one. Apple. I’ve painted three stacked apples and their shadows.

Day 2. Relic. It’s from some item thingy from Genshin. Looks like a carved stone. The details are truly awful. But sharing anyways lol

Day 3. Miniature. A very tiny elephant next to a quarter. This quarter doesn’t appear to have George Washington’s face… but someone else possibly.

Day 4. Cactus. Also painted in Sumi ink. A bit looser and I like this one best so far. I did use a pen to help define the edges.

Harvested some more eggplants. I’m not sure how to get them to grow bigger or faster. But has a novice gardener, I’m still pretty amazed I’m able to eat from my garden at all.

First harvest of year two attempting gardening. These casper eggplants were really delicious.

I’m holding two Casper eggplants from my garden. One is about 4 inches and the other three. They’re supposed to grow between 5-8 inches but my garden seems to have stunted… so I’ve decided to harvest and eat today.

Trying to finish all these (plus two others) in the next two weeks so they have enough time to dry to be varnished before the art festival. A few are very close to being complete… so I’m hopeful and working hard.

I’ve been trying to fit in 4 hours of painting a day. It’s pretty difficult. I’ve been able to get in a couple of daylight hours and a couple of late night hours. I honestly don’t know how I used to work full time when I completed grad school with 2 toddlers. Time seems to work differently now.

These aren’t quite done yet, but I love them. Working on these has been sooo relaxing and enjoyable.

My entire “studio” is just a desk. I’ve been pondering if I’d ever rent a space if I could afford it… and I don’t think I would because I’d have to leave my house and that would create an obstacle.

This sunflower painting took 49 hours over the course of 5 months to complete. (A good long break and a bit of repainting made it take longer than planned.) But it’s done and I love it! I’ll take better pictures after varnish in a few weeks. #oilpainting #watermixableoil #painting #art #sciart

The photos include 5 with flower subjects and the others have animal subjects. I’ve taken all of these photos and plan on sharing them with my students tomorrow.

Had to drive to Florida for an errand. We just so happened to be pulling into Jax at sunrise so we made a beach stop. It was super pretty but I’m happy to be back up in the mountains now.

I keep bouncing back to this as time allows. I’m spending a lot of time staring at it and thinking about how I want to change the top bit. Might reshoot the dress ref, needs better flow.

I finished this one last year. It was my first pixel painting I did on paper. Definitely a fun change of pace working on something a lot smoother than canvas… but I wasn’t used to yet. I’ve improved a lot since. #art

Year two of attempt at growing edible plants. Some are growing big but they are struggling with the heat this week. I need to water them more, but I’m happier with this set up. I installed a mesh cover today that should help keep the neighbor’s cat out.

This is the first show I entered with this local art club. A few weeks ago I found out I won an award, and today I saw the sold sticker! It feels like the universe is rewarding me for rejoining society. 🫶 my hermit era is ending
