Two terrific shows which just don’t get enough mentions

All I can say is that DIGGER might very well be a bad movie but I don’t regret having seen it for a second. If you watch a lot of films, as I do, why not just watch something unique? Script is lousy but filmmaking is distinctive and these days I’ll take that

Telling seeing Sting say he couldn’t sack anyone in The Police - he never realised where his strengths lay

Can’t bring myself to read it. I’d rather the longing for answers remains rather than reading some version of them

Dave Boyle? Didn’t he do that Scottish film about trains?

Was offered a ticket to see the Stones in 1976 but didn’t accept as they “were an old band”

Someone who worked with Ridley for many years said the key issue is that he is incapable of telling a good script from a bad one - so his technical brilliance is applied come what may, thus explaining the many turkeys alongside the greats

Woody Allen films for sure. Branagh in whatever it was called was chilling

Surely room for Ian Hendry or George Sewell somewhere? And Joan Sanderson as Kristin Scott-Thomas

Depends whether or not you like easy going Metheny or the jazzier version. In the former camp I’d go for Offramp and As Falls Wichita and in the latter 80/81 and Song X (with Ornette Coleman). Also like his album Tap on the Tzadik label where he covers some of Zorn’s Masada tunes

Gets less interesting as it progresses and the endeavours to age the cast really fall flat Star City on the other hand is pretty strong (though the final episode really pushes credibility)

Absolutely this. Score just telling us what was so evident in the dialogue and performances. Also wish it hadn’t revealed a soft centre at the end. Touch of An Inspector Calls at the finale was nice

This, and pointless and endless articles about Reform buffoons stepping up to spout off about how Farage has been maligned. Of course Pochin, Jenrick et al are going to say this. It’s not news - it just endlessly recycles the psychodrama to no fruitful end

No problem with Sade - I just don’t need the music to tell me exactly what I’m witnessing.

Big shout out for the director Marc Munden - he contributed as much as Jack if not more. And do watch the behind the scenes doc if you can - if only to see who the boy who plays Piggy would like to be stranded on a desert island with

As a fan of both bands, I always felt the drift from Can’t Buy a Thrill to Gaucho matched the move from Roxy S/T to Avalon; somewhat raucous debuts through to glacial and beautiful exits
