I wish this was simply satire rather than so on the nose.

Wilhelm Reich on fascism, clear and resonant as a bell. From Reich’s 1942 book, The Function of the Orgasm, from a section of that book called "Fascistic Irrationalism." Translated by Theodore P. Wolfe pp. 236-238 (I'll confess, post idea stolen from Phillip Bennet on Facebook)

Bluesky esoteric book challenge. A book per day (it's okay to skip days if you're really busy), in no particular order, until you've shared ALL of the best occult books in your personal library. No explanations, no reviews, just covers!

Hoping to finish this very good but oddly written study of the Goddess Oya. On the home stretch.

Reich's work is filled with metaphors from the natural world.

Not planning on posting loads about politics but I thought this was such a succinct statement about why Trump won & the Dems lost.

The following extract captures the tone and central message of the book and must, surely, be part of the inspiration for Bush's "Running Up That Hill" (first single from HoL):

The book is about a young boy trying to make sense of the loss of his father but against this extraordinary backdrop of events. Here's an extract where Reich explains his philosophy to the young Peter:

It's a strange book, deeply moving, impressionistically written. Here's KB's thoughts on it, in her own words:

Bush actually plays Peter Reich in the video and at one moment she pulls a copy of the book from her father's pocket:

However, plot twist - Bush had (to my knowledge) never read Reich. She was instead taking her impression of his life from an autobiography, A Book of Dreams by Reich's son, Peter.

Reich died in prison, 9 months into a 2 year sentence for contempt of court (he failed to turn up to the court to respond to an FDA injunction against his work), arguing that to do so would lend legitimacy to a false, non-scientific process.

This led him to attempt to manipulate the weather - he called this activity Cloudbusting, thus the title of song. Pictured here: Reich's cloudbuster (that's him in the foreground) and it's dramatic recreation for the video:

Ling Ch'i Ching. Chinese divination text. Relatively unknown in the West. Draws on the I Ching tho a deliberate simplification of that text's complexity.

Reich's Listen Little Man contains some great illustrations (by William Steig) that illustrate his ideas.

This sounds exactly like I hoped it would - mad, high tempo, swinging, kitschy, OTT orchestra, klezmer overtones. Nice to know the charity shop antenna is still functional.

James Martin's brilliant "Wilhelm Reich & the Cold War" makes a good case that Brady - a Communist Party member - was settling scores with enemies of the party via her article.

I've just finished reading Anne Applebaum's 's astonishing Gulag: A History. Incredibly researched and absolutely harrowing. The attached passage struck me as an excellent illustration of how idea of "Reichian” armouring occurs.

Killer early piece from 1973 by Staff 161. This would have been so insanely innovative back then.

A side is Junior Keating "African Queen" but B sude wins again with a heavy trombone workout from the Matic Horns. A ridiculously great piece of music. First Blue Sky record nerd post, how will it go down? *Tense moments*
