Do you have a team of 25 or something?! That's a lot!

The places you mention all have great lifestyle amenities: arts organizations, libraries, book stores, fine dining, niche retail, etc. When I first moved to Austin, I was legit shocked at how bad the food was here. It's gotten better but if I had money to burn, I'd enjoy burning it in SF way more.

Fun to think about the lakes being younger than Stone Henge and there still being hunting blinds underneath them.

On the one hand, AI will probably soon be able to cut the cost of a lot of the make-work paperwork cities make developers do to build housing. Have any of my followers used it for that? On the other hand, I expect cities will up the ante to compensate.

The thing is, there's strong evidence that the models have been plateauing ever since AI last Friday.

I think the truth is our understanding of the human brain is in its infancy. I'm hopeful that the silicon brains can help us sift through all the data we have.

This is interesting research. I don't think it answers consciousness exactly but I think it moves in that direction.

There's a lot of bad blood between Paxton and Rogers. I hope that at some point Republican voters realize they can't always just nominate the most extreme candidate and hope to win.

Got served this Republican anti-Paxton ad while I watched 🏈. I hope that not only will Paxton lose the election, but I hope his wing of the Texas Republican party loses leverage because of it.

Real estate involves such immense amounts of capital that anyone who managed to truly corner it would have cornered political power long before that. I do believe we have examples of this in company towns.

Their tactics on the front lines feel pretty questionable to me but it's clear they have some excellent tech. Ukraine is struggling to find an answer to FABs, Iskanders, jet Gerans, etc.

My read is that Waymos struggle with some things most human drivers get (e.g. obeying emergency responders) but they're way better than human drivers at the common things.

I think in five years "directly reading source code" is going to be like "reading Assembly:" lots of people learn how to do it in college, a handful do it for a living, and the vast majority of people composing software never do it.

I think journalism is a job that is legit one of the worst jobs for AI. There's so much journalists do that involves a healthy skepticism of what people say.

I'm not sure the point is to actually eliminate immigrants but to make them a permanent underclass whose presence is entirely dependent on not offending people higher on the status ladder. This is consistent with how some men view their marriage as well.

Dan Keshet @dankeshet.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I think the stable equilibrium they seek out is a sort of permanent status ladder. Once they have relegated one group to the bottom rung, they repeat the process toward the next rung and so on and so on.

Yes but not only. When I started, most people in tech loved tech. Like they were tinkerers and oddballs with a love for the game, whether they were socially adept or not. But that builds some very poor user interfaces and bad businesses, so now tech is a much broader cross-section.

The traditional tradeoff between configurability and ease of use might drop off if configuration was an AI wizard rather than a giant menu of options you have to hunt through.

Like, every company of any size now has an IT department. Maybe ten years from now every company is going to have a job title of AI engineer quickly putting together an app that's better than a spreadsheet.

I think there's also going to be a weird Jevons Paradox thing coming soon where we have an army of people who know how to program but are no longer needed at traditional dev shops walking into companies and overhauling proprietary internal systems.

One area I think AI has really upended is anything with competition over a relatively fixed number of slots: job applications, college applications, grant applications. The ability for applicants to produce decent-looking applications has skyrocketed. Screening efficiency hasn't.

I also think OP underestimates AI. "Replace junior devs" is a huge understatement to what AI is doing to software development.

I think campaigns especially like to flood inboxes of out-of-staters because if you get pissed at the campaign, you wouldn't have voted for them anyway. And they all trade email lists. I get a ton of emails from out of state candidates I never signed up with.

I never stopped believing in a redistributive state. I have stopped believing that every policy area needs to center redistribution. Bus fares can be about bus service, zoning about housing, taxes about generating funds, and social supports about making sure people are safe and happy.

It's more emotionally satisfying to get through tough times when they themselves didn't cause the tough times and there's a sense of "we're all in this together." In this case, Republicans caused the bad times and are very clear that they don't think we're all in this together.

I'd love to be in a world where transit has enough money that it can maintain service levels and eliminate fares but the moment we face in reality is dramatic cuts to service levels, which is incredibly costly for people who need transit to work. The worst bus is the one that doesn't come.

It also reminds me of the college admissions market where the cost of completing applications went down and down for decades, meaning every student had to submit a dozen just to be sure they got into one
