It’s kind of obvious in retrospect, but this show thought me what the difference between privilege and power is.
Poster for the TV Show Gundam: The Witch From Mercury depicting the protagonist Suletta kneeling on top of rubble with her back towards her fiancée Miorine who is standing and extending her hand backwards. At the background you can see the mecha Suletta pilots.

Nigel Farage getting only 63% of the vote in Reform’s strongest seat in a joke election is quite remarkable. He barely improved his result from last election.

In just 6 years Poland achieved what took two decades for Germany in terms of renewables. 94% of Czechia’s energy is low carbon, half of which is green. The former Eastern Europe is moving towards renewables much faster than their western counterparts did.

@liamshrivastava.bsky.social after the fire at Lewisham recycling centre our entire property is covered in toxic debris. Our neighbours’ too. Council has refused to clear the street or touch anything on “private property”. Any way to fix this?

An incompetent former businessman president that triggers economic crisis through tariffs and blames everything on Mexicans. A young vibrant progressive from New York that shows a better more humane way in a time of economic hardship. Talking about Herbert Hoover & FDR. Pic unrelated.

Idk who needs to tell Ezra Klein that this is exactly what the UK Labour Party did – the cut benefits, attacked trans people, and went hard after immigrants – and this is the remarkable success that 1000 iq move brought them:

I’m sad to say that the British Government has learned nothing from this ordeal and we are in the midst of another tragedy that will be remembered in the same breath as the “appalling” treatment of Alan Turing.
Wikipedia excerpt that reads:

Graham-Cumming started a petition urging the British government to apologise for Turing's prosecution as a homosexual. The petition received more than 30,000 signatures. The prime minister, Gordon Brown, acknowledged the petition, releasing a statement on 10 September 2009 apologising and describing the treatment of Turing as "appalling".

Thousands of people have come together to demand justice for Alan Turing and recognition of the appalling way he was treated. While Turing was dealt with under the law of the time and we can't put the clock back, his treatment was of course utterly unfair and I am pleased to have the chance to say how deeply sorry I and we all are for what happened to him ... So on behalf of the British government, and all those who live freely thanks to Alan's work I am very proud to say: we're sorry, you deserved so much better.

I’m moving in a month and in my new constituency they are the second largest party. Although Labour leads the Greens need to get only 4500 votes from them to win. That’s not a small number but not impossible to achieve for 2029

This is for the General election. Labour got more Tory voters than it lost to Reform and the Tories lost almost the same amount of non voters that went to Reform. It’s clear that Reform is gaining primarily from the Tories meanwhile the LibDems & Greens are slowly eating at Labour’s base

It’s really hard to overstate how much of a global leader the UK is in reducing carbon emissions. Our current territorial emissions – coming from the UK – are the lowest since 1855 and our consumption based emissions – those generated through offshoring – are the lowest since 1865
A graph showing the consumption based vs territorial carbon emissions generated by the UK since 1750.

The graph shows build up that peaks in the 2000s and then a rapid decline for the next 20 years.

Once again the reason we don’t have enough housing is the lack of public sector housing and qualified construction workers, not regulation. The government needs to abandon the 1990s and start living in the 21st century #ukpol

Immigrants are an easy target, people don’t really care about foreigners the way they care about locals and that’s being viciously exploited by demagogues. The thing is that for years the government has been told the issue with housing is the lack of supply and they did nothing.

And just to be clear how instrumental her contribution was
Excerpt from Wikipedia: “Addresses were assigned manually. Computers, including their hostnames and addresses, were added to the primary file by contacting the SRI Network Information Center (NIC), directed by Feinler, via telephone during business hours. Later, Feinler set up a WHOIS directory on a server in the NIC for retrieval of information about resources, contacts, and entities. She and her team developed the concept of domains. Feinler suggested that domains should be based on the location of the physical address of the computer. Computers at educational institutions would have the domain edu, for example. She and her team managed the Host Naming Registry from 1972 to 1989.”

This! I'm tired of people talking about biology, women's safety or sports when those things are completely irrelevant to the conversation. An evangelical pastor in the middle of nowhere flyover country doesn't give a hoot about feminism or Charles Darwin, but they sure like to remove bodily autonomy

This is something we don’t hear in the conversation around policies like ULEZ - they work. As a result of @london.gov.uk work, the air quality in GL has improved dramatically over the past 10 years. Idk about you but I’m not looking back to the beautiful times of asthma air.
3 maps of London (from 2013, 2016, 2019) showing dramatic reductions in NO2 levels as a result of city policy. The projection is that the already impressive 22% reduction in harmful levels of NO2 is going to improve further with the expansion of ULEZ beyond the circular roads. Now the majority of London’s area is within the safe legal limits of emissions.

Meta does innovate just in a way that makes anyone with an ounce of integrity feel the need to empty their stomach. Follow Index Media for more amazing writing like this.
Here's Zuckerberg, whose company's greatest innovation has been finding new ways to profit from human misery, criticizing one of tech's most prolific inventors. Facebook's journey from dorm room project to global catastrophe generator is remarkable, but not in the way Zuckerberg imagines.

WhatsApp? Bought for $19 billion and then turned into a vector for global misinformation. Instagram? A $1 billion acquisition transformed into a teenage mental health crisis machine. Oculus?
Another $2 billion shopping spree item now rebranded to support Meta's surveillance dreams.

The next paragraph is highlighted:
The company's only innovation has been discovering new ways to dodge responsibility for the harm it causes.
