love getting emails from companies who are supposedly "huge fans" asking if I want to take on a generative AI sponsorship clearly they can't even be assed to ask their own AI overlords whether this would be a good idea, surely it would tell them?? ..ok yeah you can literally just google this 💀
Googles AI response for whether I am likely to accept a sponsorship for generative AI tooling for game dev. the visible part reads:
"Freya Holmér is highly unlikely to accept a sponsorship for a generative AI tool intended for game development.
She has been one of the most vocal, public critics of generative AI within the indie game development community. Pitching an AI tool to her would almost certainly result in a firm rejection and could potentially draw public criticism on her platforms.

Key Reasons for Rejection

Ethical Opposition: Holmér has explicitly labeled generative AI as an "anti-humanity technology". Her public arguments focus heavily on the ethics of-the response continues:
"Her public arguments focus heavily on the ethics of replacing human creative labor and the negative impact these models have on the creative industry.

Firm Public Stance: She has produced major video content critiquing the technology, notably a video titled "Generative AI is a Parasitic Cancer".

Advocate for Creators: As a veteran developer, math educator, and tool creator (such as Shader Forge), her brand is entirely built around empowering human artists and programmers to learn and understand the underlying mechanics of game dev. Promoting an automation tool directly conflicts with her educational mission and core values.

Personal Experience with AI Clones: Her opposition is also driven by personal experience; in early 2025, after she posted a prototype of an innovative puzzle game mechanic online, generative AI "vibe-coding" knockoffs of her game were generated and published by copycats within hours."

Returning to Zig — Anna Liberty
Zig is rising in popularity. It hasn't yet seized the space occupied by even Rust or Go, much less C, but it has been adopted by a few major projects and countless smaller ones. As such, it's becoming an important language for the future. having been interested in Zig for several years, I decided to check back in on the language and see how I feel about it today.

ZST support for `Io.Queue`
Zig version: `0.17.0-dev.704+b8cb78023` The usecase is for a generic code which may or may not use ZST as a kind of type for a queue item. In my case, I'm building a graph of async processes where th...

Just copied the souces of Io.Queue and Io.TypeEracedQueue and replaced the ring buffer (3 words + memcpy) with a single `capacity: usize` (1 word, no need for memcpy) I'll try to make a PR to the std for this

Trying to use Zig's (v0.16) Io.Queue for ZST elements. Unfortunately, it's not possible natively, due to the `divExact(..., sizeOf(T))` in the `get` and `put` methods, so I'm trying to reimplement the queue for this edge case…

It's worth learning as it gives much more detailed view into how stuff works or could be done on the low level

Danik Vitek @danikvitek.eurosky.social · 24/04/2026
I'd say Rust, as it is much more stable and does already have a developed web dev ecosystem. Zig is fun, but the language is still not stable. v0.16 has finally reintroduced async in its probably-final form, but there still might be breaking API changes untill v1.0. It's worth learning, though

I've looked into how this closure is later called and it could have totally been an async one, or at least return a future, but for some reason it isn't. Should probably be brought up with the egui devs github.com/emilk/egui/b...

Parsing is really the fastest part of the compilation process. The hard part is type resolution, optimization etc. To avoid doing the hard part, there is a `#[cfg(test)]` attribute.

"save systems should dynamically handle object IDs and automatically populate the serialized data of every object that requires save states, and then for dialogue progression it needs to-" team cherry: WRONG. 1400 hardcoded fields in PlayerData.cs
a bunch of very specifically named hardcoded boolean fields in a single script representing the entire save state of the game
