To the TeX users out there: I put together a short video demo of a C++23 hobby engine I've been building. It compiles in parallel, can natively output to either pdf or HTML, and does some other fun stuff. youtu.be/tGP_xpGueGo

Thanks to all the students, postdocs, and collaborators over the past 15 years that really did the work that this AAAS Fellowship celebrates. Happy to share it with all of you! news.syr.edu/2026/03/26/3...

Every year the grad students host a pumpkin-carving party, and this year a student in my computational physics class contributed a #julialang pumpkin. I'm quite proud 😂

I'm having a blast teaching a new 400-level computational physics class this semester. I've been writing up and posting my lecture notes as I go, and wanted to share them -- feedback and comments are more than welcome! www.dmsussman.org/teaching/phy...

It was the first class of a new semester for me, and -- needing an example -- I asked a student what their favorite function was. They looked surprised, and said, "nobody's ever asked me that before!" I know it's a personal question, but...when did we stop asking the questions that truly matter?

I'm excited that, after a long pandemic hiatus, the Atlanta area "Soft Matter Days" are back up and running! Thanks to Itamar Kolvin and Vida Jamali for kicking things off by hosting at Georgia Tech last year, and this year it's Emory's turn! physics.emory.edu/news/soft-ma...

📢Excited to share our new paper in Nature Physics @naturephysics.bsky.social: Cooperative hydrodynamics accompany multicellular-like colonial organization in the unicellular Stentor! How do single-celled organisms benefit from teamwork? Let’s dive in! #Multicellularity nature.com/articles/s41...?

Very proud of how Dr. Packard handled the defense!

Also extremely proud as the second grad student to join my group gets ready for his Ph.D. defense! ...someone should remind me in the future not to let students schedule thesis defenses within two days of each other!

Extremely proud as the very first grad student to join my group gets ready for his Ph.D. defense! Also, I can't help but notice that he seems to have tried to make his thesis title even cooler than it already was.
An image of a thesis defense announcement. The thesis title is missing a letter, to mildly humorous effect
