A field of white scree catches evening sunlight in the foreground. The sky is split by a band of white cloud not that much higher than the camera position in altitude, casting the landscape beneath it in shadow while the sky above is clear blue. This was taken high up on the hill looking east(ish), but not I think at the summit. It looks sunny and bright - but was quite chill with the wind (and ended up being quite a wild camping experience).

There is a whole #ThickTrunkTuesday tag in the photography community which should deliver plenty of tree photos for you once a week. Big old trees mostly, but also trees with character more generally. You may also want to check out the #ForestFriday tag, which does exactly what it says on the tin.

The City and the City is the best, but it is even better if you have read some of his other ones first because it is not at all clear what kind of book it is going to be. Perdido Street Station is deliberately slow and oppressive to start, and while good I enjoyed the other two in the set more.

In the foreground, iced rocks just catch enough sun to outline them. In the distance, across a deeply shadowed glen, a snow-dusted mountain rises. A band of orange sunlight cuts through between the horizon and another dark cloud band. Dark and brooding. Ironically, above that cloud band, and to my rear, still quite a bit of blue sky, though it was closing in fast.

Thanks for sharing. I finally got a grown up camera for mountain trips last year (and went with OM) and to be honest cameras in general seem like the outdoor equipment I'm more familiar with: everything is always a trade off.

A very Scottish scene. Sunshine lights a foreground of rocks and grass, with a hummocky hill catching some light and shadow before a glen with a wee lochan. Further off, cloud shadows the hill but there is a small rainbow under there too. While above there's also some patches of blue sky. Late afternoon light after a long tour of Corbetts and Grahams in the area.

I did a 2 day tour of the Corbetts up there by going in and out from Glen Feshie which can get you four in the right weather window - these two plus Meallach Mhor and Carn Dearg. (I had to remind myself which Beinn Bhreac was when I saw your post - it has all come back to me now).

I climbed it after a wild camp on Leathad an Taobhain. Despite very good visibility I actually took a compass bearing to make sure I was aiming for the right rounded lump of the many available.

In some parts of France at least they draw a distinction between camping and bivouacking, with the latter being what we would consider strict wild camping and potentially allowed... Possibly not on a GR though.

I'm old enough to remember the pre-restored state of the plateau. It's changed for the better. I like wild mountains, and learnt some important navigation lessons on Kinder, but if flagstones are the way to prevent a big peat scar while still allowing high footfall, then I'm supportive.

A windblown tree reaches out to it's right from a twisted trunk in otherwise overgrazed grassland. It's a survivor - out of shot, but downhill are plantation conifers, on the slopes are grazing sheep, and in altitude it's one of the last tree survivors, so catching all the weather.
