After a break from productivity apps I am back on #thymer! Still love the app!

AI is a tool! The next time you read something about it, try changing "AI" to "calculator." The calculator is sentient. Sounds silly, right? AI is a technology that will affect our future, but the hype needs to slow down before we see the actual viable use cases.

The last couple of months I have gotten back into reading again, and I have learned that I have terrible taste in books 😂

Lately, I've been a big fan of smaller creators. I feel like they create more authentic and fun content, which the internet seems to be lacking. There is just so much slop!

The last few summers have been spent creating as much content as possible, but this summer was different. I needed a break to reflect and think. The summer break is a great time to stop and think about whether or not you are going in the right direction.

I just want to mention once again that Supernotes is probably the most underrated note-taking app out there.

I think creating short-form content is the hardest thing I do, probably because I don't consume as much myself.

With the rise of the analog trend, I'm hoping that we can see a lot more good-quality analog productivity tools.

I'm a big fan of mindful productivity. Productivity where you know why you are being productive and where your goal comes in front of doing as much as possible.

It is funny how YouTube accounts that used to be faceless are now showing their face just to show that they aren't AI.

I think I've experienced AI burnout. I got so tired of AI that everything just stopped.

Lately, I've been a really big fan of Paper Republic notebooks. They work so well with fountain pens.

I'm not a follow-your-passion kind of guy, but I'm a big believer in working in a field you enjoy and loving your job, because it just makes life so much easier. You spend a lot of your day working, so it should probably be with something you enjoy doing.

Getting an e-reader that fits in my pocket has been one of the best things I've done for reading more. It is just so simple to take with you everywhere.

I've struggled with shiny new tool syndrome when it comes to my productivity applications, but lately it seems to have stopped, either because I've, at this point, tested out every single application, or because it's been a while since we got a new, really good one.

To use my phone less, I've tried using a Capture Pocket notebook, and it might be the best decision I've made.

I know that the analog trend is just that, it is a trend, but it has helped me go more analog and, for example, for the first time in my life, own the music I listen to, or live a little slower. So even though it is a trend, it has made me make changes to my life.

One of the biggest lessons I've learned the last couple of years is to not turn every single one of my hobbies into a business or some sort of work. It is important to have a passion outside of your work, and a passion you don't make any money off of.
000
Daniel Pour Asgharian @danielpourasg.com · 22/07/2026
One of the major problems with larger productivity applications is that, in order to make money, they try to target teams and businesses, which ultimately means they lack a few features I would need as a personal user of the app.

Focus timers are really underrated. The best productivity tips and tools are often the best ones.

Lately, I've been a big fan of smaller indie apps. I feel like those apps don't have enough resources for real marketing, but they are actually really good compared to some of the bigger apps we have, especially when it comes to productivity applications, as well as reading and reading-list apps.

I struggle with setting goals. Either I set goals that I achieve in the first month of the year, or I set goals that six months into the year still feel completely impossible. Goal setting is a lot harder than most people think.

What made note-taking fun for me again was going back to an analog Zettelkasten system. It has not only been helpful for my projects, but it has also been really fun to build.

I recently learned about the idea of a planning retreat, which I think is a great way to take some time away from your regular day-to-day routines to sit down, reflect, and plan your goals. That is something I think more people should consider.

I read two books at a time: one more difficult, harder-to-read book, and one really simple, easy-to-read book. That way, if I have a bad day or I'm a little tired, I can still read a little bit in the book that is easier to read.

Here is a list of the books I've read so far this year: Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport, Enshittification, The Spare, and How to Take Smart Notes. And the one I'm currently working on is Better Laid Plans by Sarah Hart-Unger.

I love that my productivity system and productivity apps actually stop me from living on autopilot, stop me from doing things just because I did them yesterday.

Out of all of the different notebook sizes, lately I've been really in love with pocket notebooks, and especially Field Notes. I like that the size limits me to how much I can write.

I have had so much fun with analog productivity tools lately.

Daniel Pour Asgharian @danielpourasg.com · 21/07/2026
There are too many productivity applications out there looking for a problem to solve. It should be the other way around: you should find a problem first and try to solve it.

The last couple of months, I've tried an idea from Cal Newport called landlining. Basically, when I get home, I just plug in my phone, and if I ever need to use the phone, I have to go into the place where it is plugged in to use it.

With the rise of AI and AI tools, I think personal note-taking is becoming more important, not less.

The productivity apps you use do not matter. What matters is the system and the routines you built.

Before opening up your AI tool, it is good to have some sort of opinion. Don't allow AI to decide what your opinion is going to be when using it for making content.

I am building up my reading list for the next six months, and I am looking for book recommendations. I like productivity books, planning, and note-taking, and I also like romantic fiction books. (I have a mixed set of interests.)

AI is here to stay, and I think one of the most important things we can do at this point of AI is developing our own AI philosophy. What do we want AI to do, and what do we want to do ourselves?

My summer has been spent watching the World Cup and Tour de France, and I really needed that break after a couple of years of filming YouTube videos all the time. I think taking some breaks like this is important to stay focused in the long run.
