A couple of free events featuring Azouz Begag in Dublin next week. We read extracts from Le gone du Chaâba in my final year class today so might be of interest to French students www.alliance-francaise.ie/filf/

These words spoken by Marguerite Yourcenar resonate with a special force as we embark on the twenty-fifth edition of the Franco-Irish Literary Festival.

I’ll be introducing the 14th April 6pm showing of La Haine @queensfilmtheatre.bsky.social noting developments in depictions of ethnicity, gender and police violence in the banlieues from 1995 until 2024’s stage retelling La Haine: jusqu’ici rien n’a changé queensfilmtheatre.com/Whats-on/La-...
A black and white image of a theatre before a show. A sparse crowd looks at an empty stage with a backdrop the reads La Haine Jusqu’ici rien n’a changé

Goncourt reading group getting under way in earnest today in French at QUB - fun discussions about plot, character, style, the experience of reading and some very specific vocab! Looking forward to much more in the run-up to this year’s #ChoixGoncourtUK

Le Sénat vient d’adopter en commission une proposition de loi visant à interdire l’usage de l’écriture inclusive. « La langue française est en situation de fragilité » affirme le rapport d’examen, contre l’avis de la plupart des linguistes. Le français va très bien, merci… sauf pour les réacs.
