could ibogaine treat #LongCovid? it looks like it could work on a range of neurological conditions warning: may cause ataxia, tremors, or nausea. in rare cases, may cause paralysis, seizures, mania, persistent hallucinations, respiratory failure, or heart failure www.nytimes.com/2025/08/11/u...
Mr. Perry’s hallucinations, induced by the powerful psychotropic drug ibogaine he had taken about 45 minutes before putting on his eye mask, continued for more than 12 hours. The experience was an ordeal. He vomited intermittently and lost much of his body coordination. It took all of Wednesday to recover.

But on Thursday morning, Mr. Perry recalled in describing his experience publicly for the first time, “I woke up very clearheaded, with this very warm feeling in my body. I was as calm and as happy as I’d been in memory.”

lol this is from the Wikipedia page for conversion disorder that it links to:
Eliot Slater, after studying the condition in the 1950s, stated: "The diagnosis of 'hysteria' is all too often a way of avoiding a confrontation with our own ignorance. This is especially dangerous when there is an underlying organic pathology, not yet recognised. In this penumbra we find patients who know themselves to be ill but, coming up against the blank faces of doctors who refuse to believe in the reality of their illness, proceed by way of emotional lability, overstatement and demands for attention ... Here is an area where catastrophic errors can be made. In fact it is often possible to recognise the presence though not the nature of the unrecognisable, to know that a man must be ill or in pain when all the tests are negative. But it is only possible to those who come to their task in a spirit of humility. In the main the diagnosis of 'hysteria' applies to a disorder of the doctor–patient relationship. It is evidence of non-communication, of a mutual misunderstanding ... We are, often, unwilling to tell the full truth or to admit to ignorance ... Evasions, even untruths, on the doctor's side are among the most powerful and frequently used methods he has for bringing about an efflorescence of 'hysteria'".

@jodyhouser.bsky.social just read Age of Republic to prepare for the Revenge of the Sith re-release tonight, and holy crap it was so good! this is my new favorite canon SW comic series
A screenshot from Age of Republic: General Grievous. Grievous floats in an ethereal realm accessed through a portal hidden deep in an ancient Jedi temple. A disembodied voice addresses him: “Have you come seeking knowledge? Power? Truth?” He answers, “I need nothing from the Jedi. Except their destruction.”

update: i woke up today with a bad headache and some nausea. must be related, right?
A screenshot of a Health Rising article that says “The oxaloacetate was well tolerated. The only two side effects noted were headache (in only 3/42 participants) and nausea (3/42 participants) (which disappeared when they took the supplement with meals).” “Headache” and “nausea” are highlighted in yellow.

From Strongmen, published in 2020
“Control over female bodies in the name of population growth is another constant, as are persecutions of LGBTQ + individuals, who are seen as bearers of deviant and nonproductive sexualities. Perceived demographic emergencies due to the decline of White births and the invasion of the country by non-Whites, which inspired fascist policies, spur new authoritarian measures in Europe, Brazil, and America today.”

Screenshot from a Mother Jones article that reads “The ten Democrats voting for the bill were Sens. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.), Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), Maggie Hassan (D-N.H.), Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), and Mark Warner (D-Va.). Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is also supporting the bill but did not vote on Friday.”

at least he’s consistent
Screenshot of Wikipedia with text: ‘In Wealth and Justice, published by American Enterprise Institute Press, Wehner and Brooks argue that the free market and capitalism, when properly functioning, act "as a civilizing agent" that improves the moral condition of society by prizing "thrift, savings, and investment" and discouraging "bribery, corruption, and lawlessness".’

interesting! so maybe that guy was 0.01% correct after all. i found this on the Wikipedia page for “Ancient Greek religion”
Screenshot of a Wikipedia page reads: “The initial decline of Greco-Roman polytheism was due in part to its syncretic nature, assimilating beliefs and practices from a variety of foreign religious traditions as the Roman Empire expanded.[page needed] Greco-Roman philosophical schools incorporated elements of Judaism and Early Christianity, and mystery religions like Christianity and Mithraism also became increasingly popular. Constantine I became the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity, and the Edict of Milan in 313 CE enacted official tolerance for Christianity within the Empire. Still, in Greece and elsewhere, there is evidence that pagan and Christian communities remained essentially segregated from each other, with little mutual cultural influence.[page needed] Urban pagans continued to use the civic centers and temple complexes, while Christians set up their own, new places of worship in suburban areas. Contrary to some older scholarship, newly converted Christians did not simply continue worshiping in converted temples; rather, new Christian communities formed as older pagan communities declined and were eventually suppressed and disbanded.”

the cruelty is the point
Screenshot of OP’s linked article with text that reads: “But they never took effect. Leaders in the agriculture and construction industries said such rules would create “an unneeded burden to thousands of businesses, a bottomless pit of red tape, lost time and money.” A majority of the commissioners signaled that they could not support the rules, even after they were watered down.

The death knell came in April, when Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, signed legislation banning cities and counties from imposing such protections. He argued that it would be unfair to allow different rules in South Florida than in, say, the Florida Panhandle.”
