After the maternity ward in Baker City, Oregon closed in 2023, Teela Banister and her husband had to drive nearly an hour to get to a hospital with an obstetrics unit. She ended up giving birth in this car, about halfway to the hospital. investigatewest.org/rural-oregon-t

🧵San Diego County supervisors voted unanimously today to back Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe's proposal that the county start talks to add up to 30 new behavioral health inpatient beds at Paradise Valley Hospital and take a series of other steps to bolster local offerings.
