Persona.
A picture of the drag queen Divine in a form fitting (and what a form it is) red dress. She is wearing sky blue makeup around her eyes and is holding a pistol at something slightly off camera.

Today after abandoning a KLM shopping cart with a flight for Madrid inside, I was served an ad on Instagram for that same trip. Then, after talking with a friend about David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast I got served this ad. Seriously sick of this shit.
Gillian Anderson in an ad for the an X-Files lego set. She is holding up pieces of legos with a forced smile that suggests she’s being held hostage.

Currently reading Techno Feudalism by @yanisvaroufakis.bsky.social and really enjoying the structure: a beginner’s guide to capitalism in the front, a deep dive into everything wrong with today’s finance driven economy (led by tech industry bullying) at the back. Accessible, but full of insight.

May I find the joy this Christmas that the Temptations have on their Christmas album cover.

Can’t sleep, so here I am again, reading this

Cleaning out a leaking barn, so giving the bike a quick service before putting it into storage.

Going to Cleveland tomorrow for the bucket hats alone. Might shave my beard into a mustache too. Fucking love trends.

This gal loves to camp.
A beautiful, white rescue dog covered in black spotting named Dilla, sitting a field outside the entrance to a tent. She is enjoying sheer bliss.

I just visited a pro basketball player’s house and this is how I look in his bathroom mirror.

I'm currently re-reading Mark Fisher's Capitalist Realism and was struck by how this quote about Kurt Cobain so beautifully encapsulates art made with AI. Taking a wild swing (I didn't know the man) but I think Mark would have really hated Grok.
A text from Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher in which he says, quote: "Cobain found himself in 'a world in which stylistic innovation is no longer possible, [where] all that is left is to imitate dead styles, to speak through the masks and with the voices of the styles in the imaginary museum'. Here, even success means failure, since to succeed would only mean that you were the new meat on which the system could feed."

The modern fact is that we no longer believe in this world. We do not even believe in the events which happen to us, love, death, as if they only half concerned us ... The link between man and the world is broken. —Gilles Deleuze

Found a WWII fort in the forest near our rental in Terschelling. Can’t help but imagine being posted in a forest in winter, waiting out a long war.

In the car, on my way to Terschelling for a mini-holiday. It's a good day to uitwaaien (the Dutch tradition of walking in the wind).

One thing I particularly like about my long commute back from #Limburg is the luxury of sitting on a train and working on hard copy #writing drafts with absolutely zero distractions.

Read Good Old Neon last night for the first time in forever (since I'd given it to a student as an example of first-person obsessive rambling) and for all of DFWs faults, that meta-ending really devastates, especially when one is experiencing existential insomnia.

The fantastic mushrooms of the Dutch Veluwe. I’m especially curious about the one that’s broken open and hollow inside. #mushrooms #veluwe
A cluster of white capped mushrooms with drooping caps.A mushroom with a broken open cap and something mysterious inside.A red capped mushroom with white, tactile dots.Dirty grey mushrooms that could very well be mistaken sickly penises.

Recently saw the Hilma af Klint exhibit in Den Haag and was really inspired by her work, as well as Mondriaan’s. Everyone in the Netherland’s should go see this exhibit of a brilliant pairing. www.kunstmuseum.nl/nl/tentoonst...
