A month or so ago I made this sketch which had me feeling like Wow this is really something, man this is one of the all timers.. And yesterday I start trying to transfer it onto a copper plate, and the hands are literally like:
definitely not a hand, whatever it is.
Like that guy doesn't even have an arm, what am I gonna do with this!

This is a really really funny thing to put in a woodblock that you have total compositional control over. That's fantastic. well done Toshikata

The 9th strange stone I found. this one's preeetty strange..
printmaking experiment.
photographic decalcomania.
A photograph crushed in a printing press.
The result is a very weird stone-like apparition, quite craggy and rocky on top, but textured with impossible black rivulets and wrinkles.

Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 19/03/2025
the 74th strange stone, that I found in that place
printmaking experiment.
decalcomania.
a photograph printed on the wrong material, on plastic, then forced through a printing press.
The result is an explosion of patterns and colours.
It's part of my collection of stone-looking things, though this one is very far gone. very deteriorated.

The 19th stone 🪨
a small thing on a big dark field.
very strange.
could charitably be referred to as looking like a small white stone.
I mean, what else could it be right?

Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 12/03/2025
The 41st stone I found in that place.
This one's different again.
A white and brown stone-shaped thing, riddled with strange dark tributaries, lies in a muddy brown and blue field.
The whole gravity and physics of the scene is questionable: Unreal.
Experimental printmaking. Photographic decalcomania.

The 13th strange stone..
stone-like form in a dark, moss-like field.
the result of my own private little printmaking experiment.
One of a long series of white stones. This one looks broken; smashed on one side. quite nice I think ♥️

The 6th and 7th strange rocks I found in that place
colourful, very texturally detailed artwork which almost depicts a scene of two white rocks in a brown-geeen soup of slime.
The secret truth is, this image was generated by crushing a photograph in a printing press. it's weird printmaking

Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 27/02/2025
The 20th stone.
An ink-based artwork depicting a small mossy white stone in a natural looking bed of black-green goop.
a photographic printmaking experiment.

The 22nd stone.
#printmaking experiment. It looks like an egg-shaped white stone in the dirty mossy ground.
The moss and dirt, as always, is strange looking. It teams with coral-like nodules and growths.
A similar technique was used by surrealist painter max ernst to generate odd environments, except I use an improperly printed photograph and an Albion printing press where he used oil paint and a sheet of glass.

The 53rd strange stone I found in that place. #art #printmaking
An anomaly for this early on in the "strange stones" series.
A very weird and unreal image.
What might have been a smooth white stone is being dissolved and invaded by wet rainbow growths.
This was an image generated physically by an experimental photographic printmaking process, akin to decalcomania. shout-out Jungkook.

Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 21/02/2025
The 2nd strange stone I found
Large, white, irregular stone, weirdly smooth, lying in a wet and spongy bed of moss or algae, or something green and slimy and growing.
Unreal.
Experimental photographic printmaking.
Figurative decalcomania.

Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 17/02/2025
the 32nd strange stone I found there.
This one's particularly weird.
An unreal stone-like entity exists in an earthy field of mud-like and moss-like stuff.
That's as certain as things get around here.
Unlike the other stones so far in this series, this one's surface is not smooth and white, but instead is a twisted, fractal, green root-like texture.
It all started as #photography, but then I did some #printmaking to it. Or, at least, I used a printing press to explode the original photo anyway.

3rd rock...
a white, shield-shaped stone lies in a field of green and orange growths.
it's surrounded by other stoney anomalies. it's all very odd looking.
The result of experimental photographic printmaking, in which a landscape photo is printed on plastic and obliterated in an Albion press.
030
Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 16/02/2025
The 18th strange rock I found.
A large, wide, lumpy stone sits lodged in a shallow bed of unusually dark green moss-like goop.
This composition was generated semi-randomly in a printmaking experiment in which a liquidated photograph was compressed in a printing press, obliterating the original image.
040
Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 16/02/2025
The 21st strange stone I found.
Large, wide, smooth white stone, surrounded by green and brown goop.
'least that's what it looks like; the reality of the scene is kinda vague, as always.
040
Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 15/02/2025
the 8th strange stone
what appears to be a small white stone surrounded by green and orange mossy-stuff.
below the white stone, a large green stone looms.
we'll see it much later.
a printmaking experiment.

The 36th strange stone I found in that place.
Extra-weird shaped white stone, lying in a familiar field of green something.
This one is Miriam's favourite.

The 15th strange stone I found there.
One of my series of strange stones.
this one's almost egg-shaped, and lying in a particularly sloppy bed of abstract green gloop.
Decalcomania; Epson printer ink compressed onto yupo paper.

Daniel K @danielgk.bsky.social · 15/02/2025
This is the 5th strange stone I found.
A small, chunky stone, surrounded by green and orange mossy forms.
The medium is decalcomania, printed in an Albion printing press.

This is the 14th strange stone I found in that place.
An unusual image. New-printmaking. Inkjet transfer.
In the image, green, algae-like forms surround a smooth white "stone" with a notch in the top end, almost like a natural hand-hold.

Technically the image is photographic, like a polaroid emulsion transfer, but the original photo (the tuffty weeds I posted earlier) was crushed in an Albion moveable type printing press against a sheet of Yupo paper to "generate" this new composition.
Don't tell anyone though, I'm pretending they're stones I found.

There, specifically amongst these tufty weeds, I began to uncover the first of my interesting stones. This photography dump has all just been context for the collection of interesting "stones" I am about to start posting. Get ready for this account to become all about weird stones for a while.
Colour photograph of weeds in a ditch. The ground around the ditch is broken and strange. Dandelion flowers grow. This is a very very important photograph for me.

But back in April of that year, when I drove out to see it, Illuma was still kept seporate from Reid Highway by a weird dead-zone: A rocky, grassy, weed-filled void, dry and parched at one end, but hydrated by a lively drain closer to the homes. Here are some photos I took there.
A black and white photo of a crow in a scraggly tree planted on the edge of Reid Highway.
Colour landscape photograph of one of the dry bits of the void/field that this chain of posts is all about.. Another colour landscape photograph of one of the dry bits of the void/field that this chain of posts is all about.. Colour photograph of the charismatic, tuffty weeds that grow along the drainage ditch that runs through the field. In the background houses can be seen on the other side of a temporary fence, and a Lagoon Blue Toyota Aurion is parked where the street ends and becomes field.

Towards the end of 2023 it unexpected inflated, growing dozens of new homes and coming to rest almost against the edge of the highway like it was resting by a river.
A series of 4 colour photographs taken from the edge of a weedy, sandy, messy field, with views of the houses that surround it.

Up above Perth's North-Eastern suburbs, along Reid Highway, there's a new-ish housing development called Iluma.
Colour photograph of a big billboard poking over the grey perimeter wall of a housing development. the sky is light blue and full of beautiful clouds.
It's #photography from #Perth australia.

Friday 25 November 2022, 10:58AM, the valley of the giants.
A photograph of some trees and a metal handrail shot through a thick, olive-green painted concrete window.
The shot was taken The Valley of The Giants in Denmark Western Australia.
It's #photography, baby!

I played around with the idea of breaking the image apart with a solid black key-plate, but ultimately abandoned this one. There's more potential there though. One day I will go back and play more.
The same photo, but with a black pattern overlaid, which breaks it.

To Clayton Street, Thursday, 16th March 2023 12:08:52 AM #photography #perth
A photograph of two ficus trees in the carpark behind Spotlight in Midland WA, taken eight minutes after midnight.
The trees are lit by a streetlight.
A sign reading "To Clayton Street" is partially obscured by foliage.

My Canon 6D recorded the photo as having been taken on Thursday, but of course I set out on this excursion on Wednesday night, so this still feels like a Wednesday photo to me.

Unused something, 2023. Pressed wet ink on 100gsm litho paper. #printmaking
Printer ink decalcomania,
A corrally, nobbly, rocky protrusion.
I think I remember showing this to my sister and she didn't like it. Looking back, I kinda like it though. I should go back to it and play more.

A bunch of gloop. What was a pattern of fractures and flat facets becomes a rolling field of pinnacles thanks to gravity pulling on darker colours more than on thin, pale ones.
Ink-jet decalcomania.
The image looks kinda like a bumoy cave wall or something.

Installation of a work on paper from last year called Silt Cliffs. #printmaking #art
An ink transfer print (decalcomania) on 6 tall 100gsm litho-paper panels, pinned to the wall in a vitrine...The print shows a dark, sandy, green & white mass. A submarine lump.
An illuminated green exit sign can be seen reflecting distractingly in the vitrine glass.

I'm gonna try to see if I can be more active as someone who shares his work. Here's a print of mine called New-years Lifeform.
A cross section of a worm or fungus, or tree? It's either gigantic or tiny, and it's rooted into a gross hillside like a tooth in a jaw.
The night sky is black, and filled with stars or dirt.

The medium is 'new-printmaking', which means I made this by compressing ink. I did it in a printing press though so its legit ✌️

Been playing around with some lino for fun (hashtag printmaking)
The original block, plus prints on cartridge and brown paper..A print on cartridge.
Messy lines are visible in the negative spaces, as I didn't clean the block properly after recarving and reprinting..Pretty clean print on Gyokuryu rice paper

The process is decalcomania, in which near-microscopic details of an obliterated photo are enlarged, printed on to a non-porous substrate and then transferred to litho-paper through an intaglio printing press. It's been so much fun to figure out. Here's 001, 002 & 003

I went through a short phase of trying to print copper intaglio plates using my car as a press. I swear if I had treadless tires it would be perfect... There's a guy on youtube who gets great intaglio prints with a pasta press. Could work well with your drypoint!

I've got a lot of these funny little things lying around which were made for an exhibition but just didn't fit in with the other works, so guess what everyone in my family is getting for christmas this year.. A bunch of goop. #art #printmaking
What is this? A smooth formation of rocks? A cavern wall? A field of pinnacles seen from a hilltop maybe. It's a salmon-pink and thalo-green ink-jet transfer made by squashing photos in a printing press; my own special decalcomania process.
This photo shows it in my hand, blockmounted and with a fresh coat of artflow resin.

Happy easter everyone.
Block-mounted ink-jet transfer. Almost but not quite A3 size. Shows a black gash cut through a dark landscape of colourful little pinnacles. Looks cool.
Behind the print is the bucket I keep my paintbrushes in. It has happy easter written all over it. Used to have easter eggs in it.
