Did you get the new mRNA flu vax? I’ve heard that one is a doozy!

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Well at least I dont have to stay up past my bedtime to watch this garbage game.

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

Stop making us look at Matt Ryan’s stupid face, ESPN!

010

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 06/10/2026

So glad I went out of my West Coast way to watch this game. 😒 Ah, well. It’s nice to have the full Saints experience! ⚜️

In related news, I just signed up for a free trial of DirectTV because I will not be deterred from watching the 20th anniversary of the Domecoming even though I live 2,000 miles away now!

Every damn week, they preempt Jeopardy for Monday Night Football and the *one* week I want to watch, it’s only on ESPN?!

I’m supervising a high school intern this school year. He comes to the office on Weds and 1 Mon/ month. Only realized today was his Monday in the office when I got a text from him asking to be let in. I was working from home. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Thanks to e-bike, I was able to get over here in about 20 min.

Yep! That exactly! You only need a definition for reporting and tracking when numbers are significant enough to report and track. Ugh!

Luckily the folks I met with were nice. And I had just read through the slides a few times so the important parts were still easily retrievable from my brain. Whew!

010

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Woke up in a panic at 4:30 am when I remembered that I had a presentation this morning that I hadn’t finished the slides for. Got to work early, finished slides. Computer crashed and wouldn’t restart, so I had to present on my phone without slides or notes. Happy freakin’ Friday!

I usually go into the office on Thursdays, but it became Fall all of a sudden this week and I can’t find my rain pants. So work from home it is! 🌧️

Me too! We never got final details on the 9/5 event from the krewe, so I booked a ticket without change fees.

Turns out I’m not coming to NOLA this weekend after all. Hoping I can come down for the rescheduled second line, but will wait until things are more official before making my travel plans.

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 29/08/2026

Booked a plane ticket to NOLA for the Krewe of Dolly’s second line. I renewed my membership last week with the intention of skipping Carnival parades in 2027, but I can’t skip this.

Intellectually, I knew we couldn’t keep her on this plane forever, but it hurts to lose Dolly from this world.

The Citizens United ruling continues to have far-reaching impacts. Companies make our food supply less safe through legislative delays and political influence, causing illness and burdening our health systems. If you’re tired of the graft and greed, you’re not alone. 70 days til midterm elections.

We also went to the dahlia festival and found a variety of named after our grandmother.

Dahlia plant with a maroon-colored bloom. A small sign in front of the plant reads “Juanita #470”

My cousin took me to his super secret U-Pick spot out in the country today.

Cartons of produce sitting in cardboard boxes on the back seat of a car. From top to bottom on the image are various types of tomatoes, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, eggplant, more tomatoes, and several types of peppers.

Instacart, what are you trying to do to me?! 💩

Screenshot of an Instacart ad that features a bag of shredded iceberg lettuce. Not visible, but probably present, are cyclospora parasites.

Thank you for trying it so I don’t have to! You are a public servant.

Update: Drove a couple miles west of town and hiked to a waterfall. No smoke out that way!

View of a waterfall from several yards downstream. The water falls over a rocky cliff with some pine trees visible at the top. At the bottom of the image are boulders, a creek, and a few wildflowers.

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 23/07/2026

Yuck! The show was in an amphitheater and I started to feel sick towards the end. Not sure if that was the smoke, the elevation, or dehydration. Probably a combo of the 3!

000

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 23/07/2026

But dinner was delicious (vegan crunch wrap and burrito from Toasty food cart!) and the show was great. So all’s well that ends well, I guess. It is sunny today, but still smoky. Not sure if we’ll go on that hike we had planned .

The storms tapered off shortly after we arrived at our destination. As we walked from the hotel to get dinner, the air was had both post-storm humidity and the campfire smell of wild fire smoke.

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 23/07/2026

Shortly after we crossed into Deschutes County, we learned that the sky wasn’t dark from just smoke, but also storm clouds. We saw a couple impressive lightening strikes up ahead and then drove right through a deluge. (Thankful that 20 years in NOLA taught me how to drive through flooded streets!)

Daniele Pea @danielepea.bsky.social · 23/07/2026

Had a wild weather/atmosphere day yesterday as we drove to Bend. Wild fire smoke was visible as soon as we got out of Portland. It continues to get thicker and darker as we drove further south.

From the rummage sale, I got a couple of shirts to deconstruct and reconstruct, a couple of pins, magazines for collage, and (the thing I’m most excited about) a vintage twin duvet cover that I am totally going to turn into a caftan.

Went to Astoria this weekend for a comedy show. Bonus side quest was kitting up a church rummage sale on $5 bag day.

Extreme heat and humidity is so brutal! During the last heatwave like that I experienced in New Orleans, one of my coworkers had an asthma attack after walking 3 (just 3!) blocks downtown in the afternoon sun as we were going out for lunch.

Manhattan Pride was the first Pride parade I ever attended. It definitely gave me unfair expectations for every other Pride event I’ve been to since.

Yesterday I received requests to revise work plans for 3 of my federal grant applications w/ a turnaround time of 5 business days. By the end of the day, I received notices of award for all of them. In case you’re wondering how well the basic systems of the federal government are working these days.

CDC is cutting funding for one of my programs by nearly 50% for the next budget year… which starts next week. Hope your work day is going better than mine!

I’ll spare y’all my rant about how abrupt cuts in foreign aid to support health systems in sub-Saharan Africa created the perfect conditions for an outbreak like this to go undetected and unaddressed before it killed hundreds of people.

One of our CDC project officers told us that he’ll be out for the 3 months as he’s being deployed for Ebola response. On the one hand, I’m glad to see the US helping with the response. On the other, I hope project officer will be OK! I hope they can get this shit under control quickly.

Rates of oral and throat cancer are on the rise in men. HPV vaccine prevents it. Everyone suffers when misogyny guides policy.
