Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 03/09/2026After learning about humanism through Star Trek as a kid, in my twenties I began to read the writings of Gloria Steinem. RIP. This was a great woman who dreamed of a better world for women, for all of us. Hope she’s at rest and happy out there in the stars. 030
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 25/08/2026I’ve been a Democrat my whole life. And @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social meeting with Jared is UNACCEPTABLE. Big Gretch is in the pocket of data center companies. UNACCEPTABLE. Nancy Pelosi is rich on Nvidia stock. UNACCEPTABLE. Chuck Schumer is an ancient useless doorstop. We want better democrats. 001
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Thank you! I mean this was a few years ago, but I’ve not got an amazing wife and an incredible kid. V lucky 120
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 19/08/2026Happy World Photo Day! Posting my personal favorite photo. I was in London working, and my wife, who’d just learned she was pregnant — flew in to visit. We walked around London and stopped at Buckingham Palace where I snapped this. It’s a pure encapsulation of one of the best times in my life. ❤️ 250
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 07/08/2026So excited to see this awesome project moving forward. It’s in such great hands with Kirill, and the super-talented Ellen Shanman. Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Little indie crime movie with a big alien weapon tossed into the mix. :) 010
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Thinking about KIN for some reason today. Given it’s been a few years since it came out I want to post some behind the scenes pictures and stuff I took while on set. I miss working with my buddies the Baker Brothers. The Producers too. And the Toronto crew that shot the film was 10/10. 121
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 27/07/2026People totally miss the point of Apocalypse Now and Platoon too. 190
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 27/07/2026This might give you a grin. I remember the first time I really listened to the lyrics. Kid you not, I was like eleven years old and I sat there next to a boombox tape player, listening intently like… “oh no…. Oh noo… this isn’t a happy song at ALL…” 060
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 27/07/2026I hear this but also — fighting fire with fire… 000
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 25/07/2026So fun. I missed this. And the pics are easily, even from a disposable camera, better than anything I can take on my phone. 030
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 23/07/2026@andybeshearky.bsky.social see above. Get off your ass and DO YOUR JOB. 000
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 23/07/2026Decider.com with some kind words that are much appreciated. It’s nice to see the film recognized as a reskinned noir. It very much is. 050

Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 19/07/2026@theatlantic.com just this past week published a story about how the REAL reason Americans don’t like data centers is because of Chinese propaganda. It couldn’t possibly be the fact that shit like this keeps happening, right? 120
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 19/07/2026Racist trolls are irrelevant. Nolan called it. 150
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 15/07/2026You’re the man, Sam! Thank you for checking it out! It took nearly ten years for that movie to come together, I made no money cause I gave my script fee back to production… total indie… 110
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 14/07/2026#wardriver is number one on Paramount+ — if you’ve got the app check it out! 120
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Nah the acquisition hasn’t changed anything for us. 140
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 14/07/2026Huh? No, not a sign of anything. Don’t read into it. 140
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 10/07/2026Pouring one out for Ensign Lynch. #RIPEnsignLynch 020
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 10/07/2026I wish I had an update for you, friend— but there’s nothing to give at the moment. I’ll say this though — work continues, the writers are writing, nothing is sideways. 360
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 27/06/2026Look at the little mouse man. He’s like an elf on the shelf if the elf on a shelf was a fascist bootlicker. 000
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Amen. I would proffer though — IATSE could fight for back end much more effectively than a 20-something director. Maybe squeezing people like Blum, the producers, and doing so with the strength of a whole union behind you would be more effective. 000
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026You could call it a back-end contingency clause. You could tier the pay structure too so that crews who make less up front see back end participation kick in sooner. It can producers choice which tier — but IATSE runs this town. If IATSE were to strike on this issue, that’s how you change things. 000
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026And the trick is: even though obsession was a non-union film, it was still acquired by a studio — a union signatory. Which means that if Blum wants to buy a movie at a festival for theatrical distribution, that purchase is required to pay back end, since the crew got so little up front. 110
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Obsession would be an example right? Because it was shot for so little but it went on to make so much and there’s a point to be made about (much deserved) crew pay. IATSE could if it wanted — bring the business to a halt and “we want profit participation if a low budget movie makes more than X” 120
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Question — I see (on your profile) that you’re IATSE, which is great for this convo because you’ve got front line insight and experience — something IATSE could do in strike negotiations would be to establish below-the-line profit participation clauses for films that wildly over-perform. (Cont’d) 220
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Not to belabor anything but — Obsession was an acquisition by Blumhouse. And Blumhouse has notoriously been abusive with regard to crew pay for years. Blum also has more money than god and a production deal with Universal — why the anger towards Curry when Blumhouse is the one that can cut checks? 110
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026Sorry I’m over typing. I really do see your point and respect it. Bigger directors like Affleck and Damon are able to provide back end payment because of their clout. Greenhorns just get fired. I once saw a director nearly get pulled off a project for wanting to shoot a night scene during the day. 100
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 16/06/2026He does have the ability to talk to producers, true. I’ve been in those conversations. And I’ve seen multiple directors get smacked down on budget asks for way bigger movies than this. I think what I’m bumping on is that it feels like there’s an assertion that directors can do more than they can… 100
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 15/06/2026If you’re an art director who’s sick and tired taking shit paying jobs, correct the course and make your own movie and show us how it can be done. Force your way across jurisdictional lines and tell the producers that you’ll only direct this movie if below the line gets back end. (Contd) 010
Daniel Casey @danielcaseytypes.bsky.social · 15/06/2026He is not a producer on the film. Go to the film’s IMDb listing, there are ten producers credited and Curry isn’t one of them. It’s highly unlikely he had anything to do with negotiating crew fees as that’s not the job. Thats not something directors do. Producers keep tight control over the $$. 1100
