screenshot of a poem that reads,
"Pariahs of a Music-Burdened Past

Silence your bells, you who wander; pretend
you have no part in the powers that ruled,
in the empire that once controlled this broken land.

Silence your stories, you who remember; the decades
are too short and local memories too long to allow
the people to connect you to their former overseers."

I've been quiet about this one until I had some definite news, but this book is available now!! It's a book that's both taken a long time to come to fruition and a whirlwind of a rush at the same time. Published by Island of Wak-Wak, the same as my poetry chapbook from two years ago.
cover art, text reads "Daniel Ausema, The Fall of the City of Bells"; images from the public domain shows monks pulling the ropes on a line of bells in an old building

I see the book scammers really putting in the extra effort these days. It’s the personal touch that counts

The Moth Plateau comes to its dramatic close with Of Moths and Breaking, narrated by Melle, whose story was so much fun to write. When the 15-year-old discovers her family home destroyed, nothing will stop her from confronting the corporate stooges in charge!

The moths are falling from the sky like catastrophic precipitation. In other words, Moth Plateau 4 is out! Days of Sagebrush and Absence tells the story of the doubting priestess and hermit Milliva trying to offer comfort to a people lost and confused and cut off from the world below.

I have canoed this backwater—Croton Pond in Michigan—many times and portaged that dam. Would not want to be in an open canoe below that dam now. But would love to make some of those floodwaters appear here in our Colorado reservoirs now, if I could safely (photos from an Mlive article yesterday)

Moth Plateau #3 is out today! Time with its Tricks follows the daredevil Sake, exiled from the upper plateau for...distractibility and an utter, unfounded certainty in his own greatness. Instead he winds up in the Misbuilt City. Links to Amazon and others here: www.danielausema.com/p/moth-plate...

Good sized group marching in northern Colorado today—the crowd felt comparable to last October’s. Lots of support from the people not marching, too, in cars and lining the streets #nokings

Reading the latest @seananmcguire.bsky.social ‘s Wayward Children novella, Through Gates of Garnet and Gold, and it’s got moths, too! See, it’s not just me obsessed with moths right now. Must be something in the air. Love this description.
Screenshot of book text: “And the moths came, Sumi laughing in delight the whole time as the air turned into a shower of brown and orange wings, blotting out the world, blotting on the sun. Talia hummed, and the moths came, and everything was beautiful.”

bothered by others. When another agent dies on the upper plateau, reportedly of natural causes, he is sent to retrieve the body. But the upper plateau is a land of recluses and secrets, and Drusk questions more with each interaction whether he--or anyone--is safe in that land. And the cover:

What poster did you have hanging in your room as a kid? (My dad didn’t like us sticking things on the walls for more than a few weeks, so this was a poster I bought in college, hanging alongside a foldable map of Middle Earth)

Pre-order Spire City, Episode 0 now! Eleven years ago, we were releasing the original Spire City episodes, a story of a found family, people infected with a terrible and targeted disease, turning them slowly into animals. In preparation to re-release an omnibus, this is a new intro to Chels & co:

Encouraged by some other writers that even in times like these (especially in times like these?), sharing my writing is important, just want to say that the Arcist Chronicles as a whole is about people resisting power and corruption. And creating something better. (1/4)

Walking the dog in this snow/rain mix. There are three coyotes in this pic, running through the open space. You’ll…basically have to trust me, because they end up a few pixels each. But they’re spread out near the middle (a bit left-of), near the top of the shorter grass

Cooler, shorter days means I’ve been on the lookout for my first coyote sighting of the season on my morning run/walk. This morning I was rewarded with this one, who watched me closely before trotting off

Reskeet a picture of the very first game you remember playing. I don't think my grade school's computers had this color monitor, but this Commodore 64 Lemonade Stand was the first I remember. We learned enough Basic to tweak the game, too, so I remember in-school variations, like Hot Dog stand
