A male dragonfly of the genus *Sympetrum* perches upright—almost vertically—on the sharp, dry tip of a long aquatic plant leaf. The dragonfly’s body is a deep, vibrant red, featuring a slender, segmented abdomen. Its thin black legs grip the leaf firmly. Its four wings are transparent, displaying an intricate network of dark veins, and are angled slightly backward. Most striking are its huge compound eyes; occupying most of the head and colored a dark reddish hue, they gaze intently forward. The background is a soft, pleasing blur (bokeh) of diffused green vegetation and gentle blue sky, which makes the insect's red form stand out.
