Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Doing rewatch of Evil Dead (2013) on BluRay. What a masterpiece. Top 5 horror films of the 2010s. I have seen this like 10 times; it never gets old or loses its edge, so to speak! 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 06/06/2026My current Films of 2026 ranked list. The Drama is really going to be hard to beat. Just did a rewatch; even better, pushing towards 5-star Letterboxd level. 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 20/04/2026Kash Patel always makes me think of this meme: 010
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 18/04/2026He is a classic textbook GRIFTER. They have existed since the beginning of humankind. People are dumb enough to fall for it, just like they were 1000 years ago. If we want the world to be a better place, we need to assume there is always someone singing "Monorail" 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 10/04/2026This is the lowest reading ever, going back to 1950s when survey started. Trump has destroyed America. 064
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 07/04/2026I don't ever want to hear any political opinion from any trump voter ever again. 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 03/03/2026Going through Letterboxd official top 250 horror films. I had never seen Seconds (1966) before. Wow. The story is wonderful, but the cinematpgrhay feels groundbreaking for the time. DP was James Wong Howe who also did Sweet Smell of Success. 100
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 25/02/2026Déjà vu all over again. If you were of age, and you supported the second war Iraq, and you haven’t repented. I don’t ever wanna hear your political opinion about anything ever again. 010
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 03/01/2026For all you Zoomers and GenA folks watching this amoral bullshit play out right now... You can fight back against this traitorous trash and criminal psychopathy. Vote in 2026 for the right people. 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 02/01/2026I was a bit skeptical heading into Sentimental Value. I was blown away by it. Very rarely do we see mental illness and generational dislocation done well on the big screen. This is one of the best. If you are a sensitive soul, get ready to cry for an hour straight. Somehow better than Worst Person. 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 02/11/2025Happy Noirvember! They Live By Night (1948) dir by Nicholas Ray 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 19/10/2025Great, Liverpool spends like 500 million just to end up in a banter era season. Kanate didn't even jump. The hunger is gone from this team. Very sad to see after last year's glorious heights. 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 03/07/2025Make sure to bring up the BBB with everyone at your 4th of July festivities. Make sure they know how awful and disgusting the bill is. Tax cuts for billionaires, taking food away from starving children and healthcare from the disabled. Just repeat it over and over and over. Don't back down. 020
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 09/12/2024Hitting the top 20 of my favorite songs of the year... 20 - "Trip Me Up" by Bryony Williams 020
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 01/12/2024The Set-Up (1949) dir by Robert Wise I have never been a fan of boxing but it certainly makes for a great metaphor. Time slips away and dreams dissolve over the horizon. “Just one punch away” 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Scarlet Street (1945) dir by Fritz Lang Dan Duryea as Johnny really makes this film. A good noir needs an enigmatic huckster. It makes the con both plausible and inevitable. 120
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Gun Crazy (1950) dir by Joseph H. Lewis There is something distinctly American about this film. The interplay of violence and lust is unsettling if only because it is alluring. 100
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Celebrating #noirvember with my fav noir films: The Third Man (1949) dir by Carol Reed I recently did a rewatch. I must say the opening hour is so disorienting. Where is this going? Then Harry shows up and it is pure perfection til the final frame. 110
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 30/11/2024Yeah, I’m religious. I believe in the holy trinity. 000
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 26/11/2024In A Lonely Place (1950) dir by Nicholas Ray What could have been an insider baseball melodrama about the business, instead becomes a runaway train of adult naivety. Defensiveness is overcome by desire which is decimated by the fear of abandonment. Too real. 021
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Gilda (1946) dir by Charles Vidor How anyone human being can watch this film and not fall in love with Rita Hayworth is beyond me. The beguiling vibe of the film is intoxicating, blurring the line between lust and hate. 120
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Sweet Smell of Success (1957) dir by Alexander MacKendrick One of the definitive New York City films. Unchecked ambition creates jackals who devour everything in sight until they finally destroy the only thing that matters. 161
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Night and the City (1950) dir by Jules Dassin Harry Fabian is probably my favorite noir protagonist. Richard Widmark is slick, slippery, and drenched in desperation. But he never loses that sparkle in his eye, until the final frame. 131
Daniel Wipert @daniel-wipert.bsky.social · 26/11/2024I have been doing a noir survey for the last few years. Here are some of my favorites to celebrate #noirvember They Live by Night (1948) dir by Nicholas Ray Doomed romance was not a noir trope. But it’s perfect for the genre. Fate brings people together and rips them apart. 141
