Probably a long shot here since I'm not very active - but I'm starting to get in to Swif UI more. The Apple Docs make me sad. Who are some good bloggers writing about Swift UI out there on the internet that I should follow and go spelunking in their blog archives? Uh... #swiftUI #iOSDevelopment

Took a pottery class this month. These are my funky lil clay children. Oddly shaped but the glazes are nice :) would gladly go back and learn more.

Picking up a new Subaru this year and one of the first things the dealer pointed out was that there are physical controls for climate + sound. And I was like “buddy, that shouldn’t have to be a selling point” (but here we are)

Broke my sobriety streak 220 days in. Had a nice beer. I feel both good and weird about it. I learned: most non-alcoholic beers are pretty good if you have like two of them. Sadly, most non-alcoholic cocktails are not very good. Also: no ones going to be mean if you ask for a NA drink in a bar 🥰

Looking up Product Owner books in Libby and the top (and only results) are Capital by Karl Marx. The pipeline of software product ownership to communist is a direct one, comrade

Screenshot of the Libby reading app showing Karl Marx’s Capital as the only hit when searching for Product Owner books

Started reading Annihilation last night. I have never read a more anxiety inducing book. Something about the pace and writing style wormed its way into my brain and just went off all night. Good book Though

Big amen to that. Absolutely lovely and wonderful person. Immediately felt comfortable around her (and hey, you too)

I'm pretty excited and nervous to make bread. I've made cookies before from all kinds of places and done well at that, but never anything with a bread-like dough. I'm nervous about the mess(?) and if i just... screw it all up. But hey, that's how you learn, right?

I bought a couple of books from the King Arthur pop up here in Denver CO about bread baking and cookie baking and I'm stoked. I've been reading over their "Baking School" book and loving the way it's structured: more about learning what/why/how rather than just "here's a recipe".

With federation features popping up on my Ghost site, I decided to delete my Threads account. No more @threads address, just my own lil domain name. (@dan@danhannigan.me) I didn't need to spend more time scrolling through that site anyway. Or this site, really. Social media is weird anymore.

Getting rid of Claude & ChatGPT from my personal devices today. I'll use our company’s version for work, sure, but there's no need for those dang things in my personal life, really. Not gonna be a slopper :D

A first for me in 10+ years in Denver: our rent went down about 2.9% (for us that's about $93/mo) -- hell yeah, I'll take it.

Pretty happy with how my little habit tracking calendar is turning out. I may not be crushing my habits but at least it’s a honest view. Calendar from Case Study, using Steadtler triplus fineliners. Yellow: no alcohol Red: cardio Blue: strength

Okay installed iPadOS 26 dev beta on my iPad Pro and yeah I’m loving the refresh. Nice bits of pop and the glass refraction and overall gwoopy nature of it is neat

020

Dan Hannigan @danhannigan.me · 10/06/2025

Ah damn 😫 that's a good idea though - pretty low stakes on the Apple TV. I might pop it on one of my iPads. For whatever dumb reason I have two of them (terrible impulse control) .So one can be the sacrificial beta lamb.

010

Dan Hannigan @danhannigan.me · 10/06/2025

Catching up on the Apple news - I think I dig the new Liquid Glass look? I won't install a beta on my devices... I might install a beta on my devices. What if I install it on just one of my devices.

haha, you're not wrong! I had a lot more in that vein originally and it was a bit more cynical (read: truthful) but I decided to nudge it back into a more neutral territory just so I didn't have to deal with AI bros well-actuallying me too hard

Dan Hannigan @danhannigan.me · 06/06/2025

okay this reply actually made me cackle

Hell yeah to the delivery drivers doing the early rounds today for the Switch 2. Also uh… thanks Walmart for the treats? (I asked the driver - they weren’t his and he didn’t want them lol). Gonna be hard to work today.

I used Figma’s new MCP Server to generate some UI code. It worked. Then it didn’t. AI isn’t magic. It’s a dishwasher. It’s not here to change your life. It’s here to rinse off the boring stuff. danhannigan.me/practical-ai...

Now that Surf has been kicking around in beta for a bit, does anyone have any thoughts on it? I haven't been able to pop in but I'm curious!

000

Dan Hannigan @danhannigan.me · 10/05/2025

I usually just pop a Dramamine 30 mins or so before a flight (only flown in the US though) and let that get me a little drowsy and relax into it. Also use my headphones on noise canceling the whole time. Takeoff and landing are always a bit spooky but they’re quick (and kinda exciting)

Somehow managed to snag a Switch 2 for both Jana and myself last night on Walmart (thanks for the tip, Phil H) - but now I'm like... is it real? Can it be? Ah the joy of modern capitalism and this hellscape of scalpers, scams, false-scarcity, and more.

Dan Hannigan @danhannigan.me · 24/04/2025

Nothing activates my magical thinking like not getting a Switch 2 and instantly blaming it on that one time I said, “Not worth it without a new Animal Crossing.” The universe heard me and punished me

@usetrmnl.com hi! If I wanted to create my own views for the Apple Calendar plugin - what would make the most sense? Forking the repo and PRing? Building my own private recipe? Trying to drum up something without being redundant/duplicative

New Atlassian / Jira / Confluence design is kinda funky but I dig it (and I spend too much time in those apps)
