Yes... but the rail line was about tunnelling cash to friends, accountants and donors... followed by a compulsory acquisition land grab... followed by selling the land off cheap to friends accountants and donors...

three quarters of an hour later... I realise that I could have closed the above statement with; "It turns out that adding a Saracen character to the Robin Hood mythology would be very... Moorish"

See. Robin of Sherwood was bloody ace. Have the DVDs. Fun Fact. This show saw the first introduction of a Moorish character into the ranks of the Merry Men that almost every adaptation since has included...

I was exactlky the wrong age for Robin Hood, or Merlin. Although I appreciate that they did get to run in the Saturday tea-time slot for quite some time. I have ended up never seeing them. Sadly. It would seem that realityTV and streaming have rung the death bell of anything in that slot.

Even when they did try to produce something, it might be interesting but would often be cancelled, considered too expensive, regularly leaving the viewers on a cliffhanger; Tripods, Outcasts, Blakes7, even Farscape... A habit I note that Netflix has now taken up with enthusiasm. 3/3

Back in the 80/90s, Sci Fi was relegated to BBC2. The various Star Treks, Farscape, etc. Never considered a prime time slot (which was fine with us), but often cancelled and replaced due to sports coverage overrun of such exciting sports as Cricket or Golf... 2/3

Yes Somehow they have created (or picked up on) some of the greatest shows and writers in the genre, but never been 100% behind them. And its not just Michael Grade and his well publicised loathing of the genre that originally cancelled Dr Who and Tripods. Its something they have always done. 1/3

On the whole... and i hope for the most part... true. But they exist among us. And its worry that some of them are happy to describe themselves as 'far-right'...

If the only reason they want to be here is to make excessive profits while avoiding as much tax as possible, then they are not a net gain... So by all means they can go elsewhere...

I mean he's not wrong. last night I saw the trailer for the new movie on Apple. Matchbox, as in the toy cars. Starring John Cena, its a glossy film that looks daft in the extreme. My expectations of this movie are low and I feel sure it will meet them. ... and yet, I sort of want to watch it?

Pretty sure there is an anecdote where the childcatcher scared tye child of a friend, who asked Robert Helpmann (the actor) to speak to his son and show him it wasn't real... Robert asked to spaek with the child on the phone, and put on the voice and said he was coming to catch him...

Dan.G 🇬🇧🇪🇺 @dangurden.bsky.social · 05/10/2026

Oh... In context... The Childcatcher is a scary arsed villain sat in the middle of a twee childrens film. That was of course the more innocent 1960s... The concept of child catcher is probably far worse now than it was then.

Ah yes... but in both of those cases, they were released at a time when cinema tickets were not too expensive, so you could ar least write off a shitty film with a bit of a laugh. These days, with second mortgage cinema prices, it would be a bit more insulting...
