Really hated seeing these “most wanted” cards in the Mandalorian movie, which are clearly inspired by those used by the USA in the illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq. Rare to see Star Wars - even under Disney - completely miss the vibe of its political metaphor.

Aside from any of the obvious points, the Jobs Ready Graduates Scheme that ushered this into being and continues to be is a great illustration of the Ratchet Effect in politics, where the establishment right ruins something, and the establishment left does nothing to fix it when they gain power
Title: "The Ratchet Effect: How you are being duped by the fake two-party system." An image of a red cog being turned in one direction by republicans who "turn everything to the right", with a blue ratchet "Democrats block movement back to the left"

I understand this is a big jump in context, and numbers like this take a while to turn around, but is it not still sort of staggering that 85% of buyers in March 2026 are looking at petrol prices and going hey yeah hook me right up fellas
Screenshot of a Guardian Australia live blog detailing that 14.6% of new car sales in Australia in March 2026 were electric cars.

screenshot of text: "In an absolutely packed roster of exciting and frightening works, the stand-out moment of the evening came with the world premiere performance of Dan Golding’s 'Untitled Concerto For Orchestra And Honk'. A suite of themes from his mischievous, colourful score for Melbourne-developed smash hit 'Untitled Goose Game', the applause for Golding was the rapturous glee of a home crowd.

Add to that the genuinely gorgeous, shimmering fabric of textures and breaths composed within the work itself, adapted from a suite of Debussy piano etudes, Golding’s knockout performance as honk-horn soloist made the piece a hilarious triumph.

A brilliant assortment of works, 'Indie Symphony II' proved the appetite for video game concerts is only continuing to enter traditional orchestral repertoire. The evening stood as a fantastic example of their capacity to enthral and delight."

I did a *really* silly thing last week with the brilliant Orchestra Victoria, and premiered my newest work, Untitled Concerto for Orchestra and Honk, with myself as the soloist. Thanks to everyone who came along.
A man in a tuxedo with tails and a comically large red bow tie stands in front of a symphony orchestra on stage at Hamer Hall in Narrm, Australia. The man (me) holds an old car horn, which he is about to honk.

Anyway it’s actually the first time I have heard an orchestra play something I wrote and I’m pinching myself that it actually all works. Cannot thank Orchestra Victoria enough for making it all happen. There are some tix still available if you’re in Melbourne Thurs or Fri

In this year’s Classic 100, vote for your favourite piano pieces. You have until just the end of the weekend to do so. You can actually vote for my music for Untitled Goose Game, which I was not fat-headed enough to do but would be chuffed if you might consider it yourself classic100.abc.net.au

One of the biggest surprises for me in the final arc of Andor was this. Between Bissell’s writing, Kieron Gillen’s comics, and of course Charlie Brooker, the pantheon of former videogame critics is not shabby.
An end credit that reads “Written by Tom Bissell”

Star Wars has become one of the most pervasive pop culture languages we have for people to talk about politics. It’s something Andor leans into particularly but it is also one of the fundamental appeals of the franchise: taking earthly politics and mythologising them.

Deserved win for Best Original Score for The Brutalist. A remarkable moment in the score is the intermission, which is a fifteen-minute recording of pianist John Tilbury sitting at the piano and figuring out the theme for the character of Erzsébet - artistic creation, documented in music.
“The music in the intermission is very special. It’s by the pianist, John Tilbury, who I worked with for the more melancholy moments that follow László Tóth (Adrien Brody). The intermission is a beautiful moment where you can hear the pianist writing notes on his stave, and you can hear his piano store creaking. You can see Erzsébet’s theme emerging. He’s trying to work out her theme in the film because László’s theme develops into Erzsébet’s. I would say to the audience, sit there. Sit in your seat. Don’t have a cigarette. Don’t go to the toilet. Just listen.”

Super fun to be at the ICC in Sydney tonight hosting our Art of the Score concert of the music of Hans Zimmer with the SSO. There’s a surprise in tonight’s programme that is an Australian premiere, too.

This list is… interesting to say the least. The Nine Inch Nails boys have done well at the Oscars but to not have Challengers here is silly. Going by the often successful principle that the winner will be the one most likely to annoy film score fans there’s a pretty clear favourite here I think.
Oscars list of Best Original Score nominees: The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Perez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot

People talk about having a worrying realisation when Elon Musk finally started talking about things they themselves actually knew something about. I know more than a little about videogames and movies, and let’s just say if this guy is the genius of AI, we may be in some trouble here.
