When a CEO is spreading ridiculous-sounding claims that he refuses to back up with, you know, evidence -- here's a prime example -- there is a journalistic responsibility not to play along. Spoiler: Journalists almost ALWAYS play along, because lol clicks.

Constantly, when I read articles on the NY Times website (Firefox in Android), the site pops up annoying "upgrade" offers and demands that I use the app. Is there any way to remove these vandalisms permanently?

Backblaze is explicitly anti-VPN. It's "support" page insists that I disable it -- and any other network security -- to use the service. No, thanks.
Backblaze says:

"You may encounter the following error message when you log in to the Backblaze web console:
"There was an issue fetching your account, please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact support."
Resolve the Fetching Error

Ensure that you correctly entered the email address that is associated with your Computer Backup account.
Ensure that you are not logging in during Backblaze's scheduled maintenance period.
Disable any VPN or network security software on your computer.
Log in using a different browser, network, or device.

If you completed all of these steps, and you still experience this error, contact Backblaze support."

This headline from the NY Times is exactly the kind of "both sides" bullshit that Big Journalism continues to do -- ALWAYS to the benefit of Trump and his party. The headline implies that Democrats also tried to take over the 250th anniversary events for their own partisan purposes. They did not.

Google is polluting everything it does with "AI" -- now including Maps. In this case, it's preempting people's comments on the Maps site, which I guess is better than preempting other people's sites.

I wish a media critic with clout would ask the New York Times if it is still employing the reporter who did this -- read the "Editor's Note" attached to the end of the story; screenshot here -- and, if so, why. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/14/world/ca…
NY Times Editors’ Note: May 1, 2026

"This article was updated after The Times learned that a remark attributed to Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative leader, was in fact an A.I.-generated summary of his views about Canadian politics that A.I. rendered as a quotation. The reporter should have checked the accuracy of what the A.I. tool returned. The article now accurately quotes from a speech delivered by Mr. Poilievre in April. He said, “My personal opinion is that when a member of Parliament goes back on the word they made to their constituents and switches parties, constituents should be able to petition to throw them out and have a byelection. That would put the people back in charge of our democracy rather than having dirty backroom Liberal deals by Mark Carney determine our destiny.” He did not refer to politicians who changed allegiances as turncoats in that speech."

Hungary's fascist leader, Viktor Orbán, didn't have as easy a time bringing media under his control as Trump is doing in America -- but he also didn't have a few massive technology oligarchs on his side. Not a hint on the Washington Post's homepage that it just gutted key parts of its news staff.

The New York Times editorial board intones: "The Trump Administration Is Lying to Our Faces. Congress Must Act." Two thoughts: 1) They should tell the reporters and editors on the "news" side of the house. 2) The word "must" from an editorial board reflects its own institutional weakness.

Again the NY TImes cuts the regime's lie machine totally undeserved slack in its coverage of the Alex Pretti murder by Trump's thugs. What the headline calls "rush to judgment" and story calls "distorting the facts" are standard journalistic malpractice at this point. It's so damn tiring.

The New York Times has done more to normalize extremism than any other legacy journalism outlet in recent years. And the Times' Peter Baker has been by far the most ardent normalizer on its staff. But now Baker -- ignoring his (and his bosses') central role -- says it's all on Trump. Pathetic.
From a NY Times commentary: "But it is a measure of how much Mr. Trump has changed the definition of normal that his appetite for seizing land that does not belong to him is debated as a serious proposition rather than dismissed out of hand as a brazen violation of U.S. treaty obligations and international law."

Federal judge is upset that Trump regime fabricated evidence and more while breaking other laws, but says he's not going to do anything to punish any lawbreaker. He talks semi-tough but, in the end, is a coward. archive.ph/PKgjp
From NY Times article:

In some cases, [the judge] said, the government offered “fabricated” context and “ersatz” evidence. He called some prosecutor conduct “chicanery,” echoing observations he had shared at times during the case.

He appeared particularly angered by the government’s insistence that the fired workers had ways outside of district courts to challenge their dismissals. Mr. Trump effectively disabled those options when he fired people in key positions, Judge Alsup noted.
